Installing Service Level Manager

Installing Service Level Manager

This chapter contains:

Preparing to Install SLM

Before you install SLM, make sure that your server and client environments meet the requirements described in the "Product Overview" chapter.

SLM must be installed on a system on which one of the following is already installed:

All applications installed on your CiscoWorks2000 server are listed in the CiscoWorks2000 navigation tree. Select CiscoWorks2000 Server > About CiscoWorks2000 > Applications and Versions.

Installing SLM on Windows NT

The SLM installation takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. You can cancel the installation at any time by clicking Cancel at the bottom of any installation screen.

Procedure

Step 1 Log in as the local administrator on the system on which you installed CiscoWorks2000 CD One.

Step 2 Insert the SLM CD-ROM into a CD-ROM drive. The Setup dialog box appears.

Step 3 Click Next. The Start Copying Files dialog box appears.

Step 4 Click Next. You are prompted with the message:

Stopping cmdmgtd...

After a minute of additional messages, the Requirements Verification dialog box appears.

Step 5 Click OK. The following dialog appears:

You have enough disk space to install SLM. However if you want to install other applications after installing SLM please check the system requirements for those products.

If all setup requirements are met, the Setup Complete dialog box appears.

Step 6 Click Finish.

SLM installation is complete.

Step 7 Remove the CD-ROM and store it in a safe place.

To verify you have a clean installation, log in to CiscoWorks2000 and verify that the Service Level Management drawer appears the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop.

If any errors occurred, check the installation log file C:\ciscoinstall.log.

If the installation program terminates due to errors, see the "Troubleshooting" appendix for more information.

Note SLM searches for the CSCOpx directory, then adds log files to the root drive.

Installing SLM on Solaris

The SLM installation takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. You can press Ctrl-C at any time to end the installation; however, any changes to your system (for example, installation of new files or changes to system files) will not be undone.

Procedure

Step 1 As root, mount the SLM CD-ROM using either of the following methods:

Step 2 Run the installation program.

    # cd /cdrom/cdrom0/
    # sh ./setup.sh

    # cd remotedir
    # sh ./setup.sh

where remotedir is the remote location where the SLM CD-ROM is mounted.

The installation program performs several checks on your machine, such as TCP/IP address resolution, TCP/IP port usage, and disk space usage. These can generate errors that cause the installation program to stop before any system changes are made.

Step 3 Unmount the CD-ROM and store it in a safe place.

You are prompted that SLM installation is complete.

If any errors occurred, check the installation log file /var/tmp/ciscoinstall.log.

If the installation program terminates due to errors, see the "Troubleshooting" appendix for more information.

Uninstalling SLM

The uninstall program removes SLM files and settings. Uninstallation gives you the option to remove CD One, CD Two, or Service Level Manager. The uninstallation takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Caution You must use the SLM uninstall program to remove the product. If you attempt to remove SLM or its components manually, you can damage your system.

Caution If you have SLCs and SLAs set up for monitoring, before you can uninstall SLM, you must delete all SLC probe types using the Web interface, as the ME 1100 Series does not recognize SLM server uninstallation. To do this, select Service Level Management > Administration > Service Level Manager from the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop. Failure to do so causes the SA Agent probes to remain configured on the Cisco routers.

If you remove SLM without first deleting SLC probes, you must remove them from each router using the CLI. For information about the CLI commands to remove SA Agent probes, refer to Service Level Manager User Guide.

Uninstalling SLM on Solaris

Note This section describes uninstalling SLM only.

Procedure

Step 1 As root, enter the following commands to start the uninstall script.

# cd /opt/CSCOpx/bin
# ./uninstall.sh

Note /opt is the default installation directory. If SLM is installed in a different directory, substitute the name of the directory. If you cannot remember the directory in which SLM is installed, enter the commands show in the example. There should be a symbolic link from /opt/CSCOpx to the directory in which SLM is installed, so the commands will work.

A dialog box appears with the message:

Select the item(s) using its number or enter q to quit.

Step 2 Enter the item number, then click Enter.

A dialog box prompts you to verify uninstallation.

Step 3 Enter (y)es.

Step 4 Enter (y)es.

The uninstall messages are written to the /var/tmp/ciscouninstall.log file.

You are prompted when the uninstallation script is complete.

The SLM uninstallation is now complete.
