on Windows NT

This patch release provides additional device support by ACL Manager running on Windows NT.

All ACL Manager documentation is provided in PDF on the product CD.

Installing the Patch

The ACL Manager patch file is a self-executable file. To run this file you must have Windows NT Administrator privileges. Run this patch file and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Patch 2 includes the contents of Patch 1 with additional bug fixes. Patch 2 can be installed either on ACL Manager 1.1 or on ACL Manager 1.1 (Patch 1).

Time Zone Acronyms and Offset Settings

Except for the time zone settings defined in Table 2, ACL Manager supports the CiscoWorks2000 Server time zone settings defined for Essentials 3.0. Refer to Resource Manager Essentials 3.0 Release Notes (Windows NT)). If any server time zone setting is not supported by ACL Manager, you should set the values using GMT.

Known Problems

Known problems are unexpected behaviors or defects in ACL Manager software releases.You can search for known problems on the Cisco bug tracking system tool, called Bug Navigator II. To access Bug Navigator II, either:

Cannot create or open scenario in Essentials 3.1

ACL Manager 1.1 does not work with Essentials 3.1. You must install ACL Manager 1.1 (Patch1) for it to work with Essentials 3.1.

Download fails for dynamic ACLs.

Cannot download IP Extended ACE that has both Dynamic and Reflexive ACL names. Use only Dynamic ACL name or Reflexive ACL name.

ACLM cannot be invoked with URL as the localhost.

If you run the ACL Manager client on the same machine as the ACL Manager server, do not enter localhost or 127.0.0.1 in the URL. Use machine name or IP address.

ACLM cannot create or recognize Time range ACLs.

ACL Manager does not support time range ACLs.

ACLM does not allow you to create an ACE with "any" as the hostname.

ACL Manager recognizes "any" as a keyword. If "any" is a hostname to be used in an ACE, use its fully qualified hostname, for example, any.cisco.com.

Need accurate message when client gets disconnected from server.

If client disconnects from server, a message ORG.OMG.CORBA.NO_IMPLEMENT [completed=MAYBE] appears.

Device appears stale after a download in a read-only scenario.

If you download ACLs to a device from read-only scenario, device appears stale.

Some menu items do not function correctly if you use the keyboard to select them.

Y2K: ACLM cannot adjust to the time zone HKT and PST8PDT.

Server time displayed as offset from GMT instead of local time qualified with time zone IDs for regions in HKT and PST8PDT time zones.

ACLM does not recognize REMARK ACEs.

ACL Manager does not recognize REMARK ACEs (Access List Entry Comments) on device, but it recognizes other ACEs present under the same ACL. If you modify and download this ACL to device, REMARK ACEs are lost.

ACLM does not recognize the "trace" option in IP Extended ACEs.

ACL Manager does not recognize the trace option in IPX Extended ACEs. It displays the ACEs without this option.

ACLM hangs when it is closed from the Task bar in a minimized state.

If you run menu items from the menu bar or from buttons in the tool bar, and minimize the ACL Manager window before a dialog box appears, the window is inaccessible.

Interoperability problems between CiscoWorks2000 Job Management and ACL Manager Job Browser.

If you select the ACL Manager job from the CiscoWorks2000 Job Management window and click any button, a message, Use ACL Manager's Job Browser for this option, appears. You can control ACL Manager jobs only through ACL Manager Job Browser dialog box which displays correct status.

If you successfully download a job for a device, refresh the device before scheduling another download job on it.

Multiple sessions of Essentials on a single client are not supported.

You can run only one instance of Essentials (or Campus Manager) from any given client.

Symptom Probable Causes Possible Solution

ACL Manager main window is grayed out.

Windows NT did not refresh successfully.

Resize main window to force refresh.

Template not visible in Template Selection Window.

Template Selection window lists templates specific to ACL protocol. If you are on ACL 100, you see only IP Extended Templates and so on. However, Template Manager lists all templates.

You must have administrator privileges to access Template Manager.

Create template appropriate to ACL protocol.

Error Message:
Cannot connect to ACLM Server

You tried to start Essentials or ACL Manager before applications were initialized.

Wait for a while, then try to reconnect.

TCP port 15349 is in use.

Use netstat -a -n to view status of TCP port 15349. If port is in use, change the ACL Manager port value in aclm.properties.

ACL Manager server is not running.

Select CiscoWorks2000 Server > Administration > Process Management >Process Status to make sure ACL Manager server is running.

JRM or Change Audit is not running.

Ensure that JRM or Change Audit is running.

Error Message:
Cannot connect to ACLM Server.

Machine name change after the installation.

    1. Modify the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/
    SOFTWARE/cisco/Resource Manager/Current Version/Environment/PX_Host
    to reflect the new server name.

    2. Modify PX_HOST in md.properties to reflect the new server name
    PX_HOST= new_server_name.
    For md.properties the path is:
    installation_dir\CSCOpx\lib\
    classpath\md.properties

    3. Modify ORBagentAddr in aclm.properties to reflect the new server name and reboot the server.
    For aclm.properties the path is:
    installation_dir\CSCOpx\objects\
    aclm\etc\aclm\aclm.properties

Download Job status: Pre-Download Failed.

Device went stale during download.

    1. Select Device in ACL Manager.

    2. Right click and select Refresh Device.

Download to device again.

Download Job status: Download Failed and Device Results reports that Telnet credentials did not match.

Essentials Telnet and enable passwords do not match device passwords.

Match passwords in Essentials Inventory with device.

TACACS user name and password in Essentials do not match device passwords.

Match TACACS username and password in Essentials inventory with device. Do not specify local username and password in Essentials inventory.
