This instruction book provides information about ACL Manager requirements and installing ACL Manager on Windows NT and Solaris machines.
ACL Manager runs on top of CiscoWorks2000 Resource Manager Essentials Release 2.1 (Essentials) or newer.
ACL Manager has two components: a server integrated with the Essentials database and a client integrated with the Essentials GUI.
The system requirements for ACL Manager are summarized in this section. Except where noted, ACL Manager requirements are the same as Essentials requirements.
This section describes the requirements for Windows NT.

This is different from Essentials. You can access Essentials from a client machine running either Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95.

This section describes how to install ACL Manager on a Windows NT machine.
To install the ACL Manager server, follow these steps:
1. Make sure your system meets all of the requirements described in the "Windows NT Requirements" section.
2. Close all applications.
3. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.
4. Launch Windows NT Explorer, and double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
5. Open the NT folder and double-click the setup.exe icon.
If Essentials is not installed, a warning appears and ACL Manager does not install.
6. In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.
7. In the User Information dialog box, accept the default name and company or enter new data, then click Next.
The username and company information is obtained from the Windows NT registry.
The Essentials Server URL dialog box appears, with a URL entered.
8. Accept the URL as is, or change the web server port number if required.
9. Click Next.
The Start Copying Files Window appears.
10. Click Next.
If Essentials is running, a message informs you that the Essentials Daemon Manager is stopping. If Essentials is not running, a message informs you that the Essentials Daemon Manager service is not started.
The ACL Manager files are copied, and the Setup Complete dialog box appears with the Read Me file option selected. This file contains information about starting the ACL Manager Client.
11. Select one of the following options:
Yes, I want to restart my computer now
No, I will restart my computer later
12. Click Finish to complete the installation and display the readme file.
13. Remove the ACL Manager CD from your CD-ROM drive.
If you selected the first option in Step 12, the computer reboots.
If you selected the second option in Step 12, reboot your computer.
To install the client on a system other than the ACL Manager server system:
1. Start Essentials from the client machine on which you want to install the ACL Manager client. To start Essentials, open a browser and enter the server URL in the format http://server_name.
2. Start ACL Manager by selecting the Tasks or Admin folder from the Essentials navigation tree. For example, select Tasks >
ACL Management.
3. Start an ACL Manager task; for example, Tasks >
ACL Management > View ACLs.
If the client is not already installed, the ACL Manager Client Component Installation screen appears.
4. Select the client for your platform and download AclmClient.exe.
5. Double-click the AclmClient.exe icon.
The Welcome dialog box appears.
6. Click Next.
The User Information dialog box appears with a username and company name already entered. This information is obtained from the Windows NT registry.
7. Accept the default username and company name or edit those fields, then click Next.
The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears, with a default destination folder already entered.
8. Accept the default destination or enter the name of the directory in which you want to install the ACL Manager client.
The Browse feature is provided to help you find a destination.
9. Click Next.
The Essentials Server URL dialog box appears with a URL entered.
10. Accept the URL as is, or change the web server port number if required.
11. Click Next
The Start Copying Files dialog box appears, displaying the destination directory selected in Step 10.
12. Click Next.
The ACL Manager client files are copied into the destination directory.
The Setup Complete dialog box appears.
13. Select one of the following options:
Yes, I want to review the Read Me file now.
Yes, I want to launch AclmClient.bat now.
14. Click Finish.
To start the ACL Manager client:
1. Close all browsers (Navigator only).
2. Click on the desktop shortcut Start ACL Manager Client created during the client installation, or select Start > Programs >
ACL Manager Client > Start ACL Manager Client.
The client connects to the ACL Manager server that you named during the client installation.

This section describes how to install ACL Manager on a Solaris machine.
You can install the ACL Manager on a local disk or on a network-mounted Network File System (NFS) disk to which you have root access.
To install ACL Manager, follow these steps:
1. Make sure your system meets all of the requirements as described in the "Solaris Requirements" section.
2. Become superuser by entering su and the root password at the command prompt, or log in as root.
3. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
The CD-ROM is automatically mounted into the /cdrom/cdrom0 directory. If you are running File Manager, a separate File Manager window displays the contents of the CD-ROM.
4. Enter the following commands:
# cd /cdrom/cdrom0/sol # ./setup.sh
5. Enter y to agree to the terms of the copyright, then press Return.
If the correct version of Essentials is not installed, an error message is displayed and the installation terminates.
If Essentials is installed, the following appears on your screen:

6. Enter 1 or 2 and press Return, or simply press Return to install both the server and the client.
The installation program displays the names of the server files being installed. If you are installing only the server, no more questions are asked during the installation.
7. If you are installing the client:
(a) Enter the location for the client installation at the following prompt or press Return to accept the default location:
Enter product install location:[/opt/CSCOaclm]
(b) Enter the pathname for the Netscape browser at the following prompt and press Return:
Enter full Netscape browser executable pathname:
(c) Enter the URL of the Essentials server at the following prompt and press Return:
Enter Resource Manager URL (http://<hostname>):
The installation program displays the names of the client files that are being installed.
8. After the installation finishes:
If you installed both the server and the client, log in when the Essentials server restarts. Then select Tasks or Admin to display the ACL Manager folders.
If you installed only the client on a Solaris client system, you can start the client by entering the following command:
# /opt/CSCOaclm/bin/client.sh
9. Remove the CD from your CD-ROM drive and store it in a safe place.
This section describes how to uninstall ACL Manager on Windows NT and Solaris.
To uninstall the ACL Manager server, follow these steps:
1. Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. From the list of software, select ACL Manager1.0.
3. Click Add/Remove.
4. In the Confirm File Deletion dialog box, click Yes. The Remove Programs from Your Computer window opens.
5. When the uninstallation is complete, click OK.
To uninstall the ACL Manager client, follow these steps:
1. Select Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. From the list of software, select ACL Manager Client 1.0.
3. Click Add/Remove.
4. In the Confirm File Deletion dialog box, click Yes. The Remove Programs from Your Computer window opens.
5. When the uninstallation is complete, click OK.
To uninstall the ACL Manager server, follow these steps:
1. Enter the following command:
# /usr/sbin/pkgrm CSCOaclms
2. Enter y after the prompt asking if you want to remove this package, then press Return.
To uninstall the ACL Manager client, follow these steps:
1. Enter the following command:
# /usr/sbin/pkgrm CSCOaclmc
2. Enter y after the prompt asking if you want to remove this package, then press Return.
