This chapter describes installing CD Two on a Solaris system. It consists of:
CD Two is the Inventory application of Resource Manager Essentials (Essentials) Version 3.1. When you install CD Two, other components of Essentials, such as Configuration Management, Software Management, Syslog Analysis, Availability, and Contract Connection will not be available to you.

Note You can use CD Two with any product that requires the inventory functions of Resource Manager Essentials version 3.1. |
CD Two allows you to perform most inventory functions of Resource Manager Essentials version 3.1, such as importing a device, deleting a device, and generating reports. However, the 24-hour Inventory Change Report, device attribute checking and Custom Reports are not available.

Note You must install CD One before installing CD Two. CD Two can work only if CD One is installed. For details, refer to Installing and Setting Up CD One on Solaris. |
This section describes prerequisites and other factors you should consider before installing CD Two.
You can only install CD Two on CD One 2nd Edition.
This section describes the server requirements and recommendations for CD Two.
| Requirement Type | Minimum Requirements |
|---|---|
Sparc Ultra 10 or later | |
256 MB | |

CiscoWorks2000 CD One must be installed before you install |
To verify the amount of available disk space in each of the specified partitions and directories, enter:
# df -k directory
where directory is the partition or directory for which you want to check the available disk space.
The major consideration that can help you select or configure a system that best meets your needs is the number of managed devices you expect the Inventory application to manage, because the number of managed devices affects server performance and user report response time.
Table 1-2 shows the recommendations for a server running CD Two. These recommendations produce optimal response time when running user reports.
| Minimum System Configuration Availability | Number of Managed Devices |
|---|---|
Ultra 10 Memory: 256 MB Swap space: 512 MB Available disk space: 4 GB | 0-500 |
Ultra 10 Memory: 384 MB Swap space: 768 MB Available disk space: 6 GB | 500-2,500 |
Ultra 60 (dual processor) Memory: 512 MB Swap space: 1024 MB Available disk space: 6 GB |
The minimum client system requirements for CD Two are shown in Table 1-3. Before you can access the Inventory application from a client system, you must configure the system. For more information about client system requirements and configuring clients, refer to Installing and Setting Up CD One on Solaris.
| Requirement Type | Minimum Requirement |

You can import device information to inventory from both local and a remote network management systems (NMSs).
Table 1-4 and Table 1-5 show the NMSs CD Two supports for importing devices.
| NMS | Version |
|---|---|

Cisco WAN Manager | 9.2 |
HP Openview Network Node Manager | 5.01 or 6.0 |
CiscoWorks | 4.0 |

For more information, see the "Adding or Importing Inventory Data" section or refer to the online help.
CD Two supports all devices supported in Essentials. Device adapter packages for all supported devices are installed when you install CD Two. Information about these devices can be found at
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/ cw2000e/index.htm.
You can download device packages for new devices and find information about new device support from CCO at www.cisco.com.
To see a list of the device packages installed on your CiscoWorks 2000 server, select CiscoWorks2000 Server>About CiscoWorks2000>Applications and Versions. Click on the Inventory Manager link to see specific device information.

This section describes how to perform a new installation.
The CD Two installation takes approximately 10 minutes. You can press Ctrl-C at any time to end the installation. However, any changes to your system (for example, installation of new files or changes to system files) will not be undone.
The installation program installs CD Two in the same location as CD One (/opt/CSCOpx by default) and starts CiscoWorks2000.
See "Mounting and Unmounting the CD-ROM" for detailed mounting instructions.
Step 2 Start the installation program.
where remotedir is the remote location where the CD-ROM is mounted.
The installation program checks for required patches and other dependencies and displays:
1. CD Two2. Inventory Incremental Device Support3. All of the aboveStep 3 Enter 3 to install all components, and press Return.
The installation program checks dependencies and system requirements. If the minimum recommended requirements are not met, the installation program displays an error message.
The installation finishes without displaying more questions, and the system prompt appears.
Step 4 Unmount and eject the CD-ROM. For instructions, see "Mounting and Unmounting the CD-ROM."
If you had any errors, check the installation log file /var/tmp/ciscoinstall.log. For other troubleshooting information, see "Troubleshooting the Installation"
Use the uninstall command to remove CD Two files and settings.
Before uninstalling CD Two, you must remove any applications that depend on CD Two.
