Installing CD Two

Installing CD Two

This chapter describes installing CD Two on a Solaris system. It consists of:

Product Overview

CD Two is the Inventory application of Resource Manager Essentials (Essentials) Version 3.1. When you install CD Two, other components of Essentials, such as Configuration Management, Software Management, Syslog Analysis, Availability, and Contract Connection will not be available to you.

Note You can use CD Two with any product that requires the inventory functions of Resource Manager Essentials version 3.1.

CD Two allows you to perform most inventory functions of Resource Manager Essentials version 3.1, such as importing a device, deleting a device, and generating reports. However, the 24-hour Inventory Change Report, device attribute checking and Custom Reports are not available.

Note You must install CD One before installing CD Two. CD Two can work only if CD One is installed. For details, refer to Installing and Setting Up CD One on Solaris.

Preparing to Install CD Two

This section describes prerequisites and other factors you should consider before installing CD Two.

Installation Paths

You can only install CD Two on CD One 2nd Edition.

Server Requirements and Recommendations

This section describes the server requirements and recommendations for CD Two.

Minimum Server Requirements

Table 1-1: Server System Minimum Requirements
Requirement Type Minimum Requirements

System Hardware

Sparc Ultra 10 or later

Memory (RAM)

256 MB

Available drive space

  • 4 GB on the partition on which you install the product (the default is /opt)

  • Swap space equal to double the amount of memory (RAM). For example, if your system has 256 MB of RAM, you need
    512 MB of swap space.

Additional required software

CiscoWorks2000 CD One must be installed before you install
CD Two. Refer to Installing and Setting Up CD One on Solaris.

To verify the amount of available disk space in each of the specified partitions and directories, enter:

# df -k directory

where directory is the partition or directory for which you want to check the available disk space.

Server Recommendations

The major consideration that can help you select or configure a system that best meets your needs is the number of managed devices you expect the Inventory application to manage, because the number of managed devices affects server performance and user report response time.

Table 1-2 shows the recommendations for a server running CD Two. These recommendations produce optimal response time when running user reports.

Client Requirements

The minimum client system requirements for CD Two are shown in Table 1-3. Before you can access the Inventory application from a client system, you must configure the system. For more information about client system requirements and configuring clients, refer to Installing and Setting Up CD One on Solaris.

Supported NMS Environments for Device Import

You can import device information to inventory from both local and a remote network management systems (NMSs).

Supported Devices

CD Two supports all devices supported in Essentials. Device adapter packages for all supported devices are installed when you install CD Two. Information about these devices can be found at
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/ cw2000e/index.htm.

You can download device packages for new devices and find information about new device support from CCO at www.cisco.com.

To see a list of the device packages installed on your CiscoWorks 2000 server, select CiscoWorks2000 Server>About CiscoWorks2000>Applications and Versions. Click on the Inventory Manager link to see specific device information.

Installing CD Two

Note You must install CiscoWorks2000 CD One before you can install CD Two. Refer to Installing and Setting Up CD One on Solaris

This section describes how to perform a new installation.

The CD Two installation takes approximately 10 minutes. You can press Ctrl-C at any time to end the installation. However, any changes to your system (for example, installation of new files or changes to system files) will not be undone.

The installation program installs CD Two in the same location as CD One (/opt/CSCOpx by default) and starts CiscoWorks2000.

Step 1 As root, mount the CD Two CD-ROM using either of the following methods:

See "Mounting and Unmounting the CD-ROM" for detailed mounting instructions.

Step 2 Start the installation program.

where remotedir is the remote location where the CD-ROM is mounted.

The installation program checks for required patches and other dependencies and displays:

1. CD Two

2. Inventory Incremental Device Support

3. All of the above

Step 3 Enter 3 to install all components, and press Return.

The installation program checks dependencies and system requirements. If the minimum recommended requirements are not met, the installation program displays an error message.

The installation finishes without displaying more questions, and the system prompt appears.

Step 4 Unmount and eject the CD-ROM. For instructions, see "Mounting and Unmounting the CD-ROM."

If you had any errors, check the installation log file /var/tmp/ciscoinstall.log. For other troubleshooting information, see "Troubleshooting the Installation"

Uninstalling CD Two

Use the uninstall command to remove CD Two files and settings.

The uninstallation program removes files and settings. Uninstallation allows you to remove only CD Two or remove CiscoWorks2000 CD One as well. To uninstall CD One, you must uninstall CD Two.

Before uninstalling CD Two, you must remove any applications that depend on CD Two.

Uninstalling CD Two takes about 10 minutes.

Caution You must use the uninstall command to remove the product. If you try to remove CD Two or its components manually, you can damage your system. If Resource Manager Essentials is not present, uninstalling CD Two software removes the inventory database as well.

Step 1 As root, enter the following commands to start the uninstall script:
# cd /
# /opt/CSCOpx/bin/uninstall.sh

where /opt/CSCOpx is the default installation directory.

A list of CiscoWorks2000 components appears.

Note When you remove CD Two, the uninstall script removes changes made to the /etc/services file. The /etc directory still contains all system file changes. The uninstall messages are written to the /var/tmp/ciscouninstall.log file.

Step 2 Enter the number corresponding to the option you have chosen or q to quit.

When the uninstall script is complete, a message displays:

All files were deleted successfully.

Step 3 Check /etc/syslog.conf for syslog changes. Check /etc/services to ensure that port assignments for the Daemon Manager and web server have been removed.
