CiscoWorks2000 is a family of products based on Internet standards for managing Cisco enterprise networks and devices. All CiscoWorks2000 products use and depend upon the CiscoWorks2000 Server.
The CiscoWorks2000 Server represents a common set of management services which are shared by multiple network management applications. It is included on the CiscoWorks2000 CD One disc, and provides services for:
Although many applications depend on the CiscoWorks2000 Server, all applications do not use the provided features to the same extent. You should understand how particular applications interact with the CiscoWorks2000 Server.
The CiscoWorks2000 Server is designed as a three-tiered infrastructure divided into:
Application suites enable system and network services in order to use them. Runtime services are enabled by default. Services are enabled when a suite is installed and an application that requires a service enables it. Enabling network services enables the system services component automatically. CiscoWorks2000 Server applications are then integrated into the CiscoWorks2000 desktop.
If a particular suite of applications does not use a particular service, the applications might not appear on the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop. Applications and application suites might not use these features at all or to the fullest extent to which they are available. Refer to the user guide for your application suite to determine the extent to which these features are used.
Many time zones are supported by the CiscoWorks2000 Server and its associated CiscoWorks2000 application suites. However, applications that have scheduling and reporting functions, and that produce or use time stamps, vary depending on:

Most tasks directly require system administrator-level privileges because they affect the performance and behavior of the CiscoWorks2000 Server (see "Setting Up User Accounts" section). However, some tasks are accessible to all users (see Table 1-1). These tasks are server tasks only; suite-specific tasks available to all users are described in their user guides or their online help.
