Migrating from CiscoWorks Classic to CiscoView

Migrating from CiscoWorks Classic to CiscoView

This appendix provides information about how CiscoWorks features and functionality are transitioned to CiscoView.

The following sections are presented:

Data Migration

This section discusses the CiscoWorks data migration. Migration methods and workarounds for nonmigrated data are also provided. Table B-1 shows the CiscoWorks Data Migration.

CiscoView

GUI-based device monitoring and management application. Provides NMS menu integration, topology map integration, and even forwarding.

CiscoView Classic is provided as part of CWSI Campus. It is not browser-based. In its current form, CiscoView will continue to provide integration with the HP OpenView, NetView, and Solstice NMS products.

Login/Logout

Performs single generic log in and log out.

Administrative login and logout functionality and a five-level user security system.

Tool Box

GUI for starting CiscoWorks applications.

Navigation Tree.

Partially Transitioned Features

Table B-3 shows the CiscoWorks features that are partially transitioned to CiscoView. Partially transitioned means that only some CiscoWorks functions are provided in CiscoView.

Table B-3: Partially Transitioned Features
Feature CiscoWorks Feature Description CiscoView Feature Description

Device and Application Level Security

Allows all applications and user-based security in CiscoWorks to be applied to groups of devices. Application level security allows varying levels of access to CiscoWorks applications based on user authentication.

Uses a five-level security model that addresses application-level security on a user-role basis.

Does not provide device-level security.

Device Monitor

Polls interface and environment status regularly.

Environmental status can be monitored through CiscoView syslog messages or traps. CiscoView Classic is provided with CWSI Campus.

Real-Time Graphs

Dynamically graphs real-time router information, router health, interface health, and protocol traffic using the NMS graphing utility.

Inventory has Hardware Summary graph, Chassis Summary graph, and Software Version graph.

CiscoView provides equivalent functionality, with the exception of protocol breakdown.
