Prerequisites

This chapter describes the factors that you should consider before installing CiscoWorks2000 CD One on a Solaris system. It contains:

Product Overview

CD One, the foundation for CiscoWorks2000 Family of Products, enables the deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of devices across your network. CD One includes a web-server component, web-based tools, and web-browser capability. The functional components are:

CD One Upgrade Paths

If you are a first time CiscoWorks2000 user, skip to "Server Requirements." If you are a previous CiscoWorks2000 user (Resource Manager Essentials, CWSI Campus, or both), see Table 1-1 for the supported upgrade paths.

Table 1-1: Supported Upgrade Paths
Previous Product Upgrade

Essentials 2.0, 2.1, 2.2

CD One + Resource Manager Essentials 3.0

Essentials 2.0 and CWSI 2.2

Essentials 2.1 and CWSI 2.3

Essentials 2.2 and CWSI 2.4

CD One + Resource Manager Essentials 3.0, Campus Manager 3.0, or both

You must use the CD One installation program to perform these upgrades. Refer to the "Installing CD One" chapter, "Performing an Upgrade Installation" section.

Note During CD One installation, previous product versions are removed, but the database, ANI information, community strings, user and host information, and application-specific data files are preserved and will be restored during the new product version installations.

Server Requirements

The minimum system requirements for the CiscoWorks2000 server are shown in Table 1-2.

Table 1-2: Server System Requirements
Requirement Type Minimum Requirements

System hardware

  • Sparc Ultra 10.

  • 17-inch color monitor.

  • CD-ROM drive.

Memory (RAM)

256 MB.

Available drive space

  • 2 GB on the partition on which you install the product (the default is /opt).

  • Swap space equal to double the amount of memory (RAM). For example, if your system has 256 MB of RAM, you need 512 MB of swap space.

System software

Solaris 2.6.

Additional software (Optional)

Netscape Navigator 4.6.1 (if you are using the CiscoWorks2000 desktop on the server system).

To verify the amount of available disk space in each of the specified partitions and directories, enter:

# df -k directory

where directory is the partition or directory for which you want to check the available disk space.

Solaris Patches

If you are using Solaris 2.6, the following patches are required:

The following patches are optional:

Use the showrev -p command to verify that these patches have been applied.

Caution Make sure patch 106292-03 is not installed on your system. Otherwise CD One will not install.

Patches are available only to users with Sun service contracts. For more information about the Solaris 2.6 patches, go to:
http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/netmgmt/cw2000/

Client Requirements

The minimum system requirements for the CiscoWorks2000 client are shown in Table 1-3. For information about configuring client systems, see the "Preparing to Use CD One" chapter.

Supported Devices

Cisco View, a major component of CD One, manages and configures different types of Cisco devices. Refer to Using CiscoView for supported device information.

Supported Network Management System Environments

You can import devices locally from UNIX and Windows NT systems. You can import devices remotely from a UNIX system only. The network management system (NMS) supported for importing device information into the CiscoView application is HP OpenView Network Node Manager. Refer to Using CiscoView and the online help for information about importing devices.
