Read Me First - CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution (SMS) Bundle
This document gives you the basic requirements, installation order, and instructions for installing and setting up the CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution (SMS) bundle.
The CiscoWorks2000 SMS Bundle comprises the following:
CD One comprises:
- CD One 2nd Edition product CD
- PDF versions of Installing and Setting Up CiscoWorks2000 CD One (on Windows NT or Solaris), Using CiscoView, and Getting Started with the CiscoWorks2000 Server
- Release Notes
CD Two comprises:
- CD Two 1st Edition product CD
- PDF version of Installing and Setting Up CD Two (on Windows NT or Solaris)
- Release Notes
Service Level Manager comprises:
- Service Level Manager product CD

The following tables summarize the server and client requirements for CiscoWorks2000 SMS.
Table 1: Server Requirements

- 10BaseT or faster (10 Mbps or faster network connection)

| - 6 GB on the partition on which you install the product (the default is /opt)
- 1 GB swap space
- Enough space for downloaded files in the /var directory
- The /tmp directory must be on a swap partition

Before you begin installation:
- Make sure that your environments meet the minimum client and server requirements.
- Identify your installation path (refer toTable 4).
- Familiarize yourself with the procedures and other information in Table 5.
- For each task, refer to the documents listed in the Reference column in Table 5.
You should refer to the hard copy of the CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution Quick Reference Guide for installing and setting up a typical installation. Alternatively, you can obtain PDF documentation providing detailed information for custom installation from the accompanying CDs. Refer also to the the CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution Quick Reference Guide for information on obtaining additional copies of product documentation.

Table 5 provides a summary of the SMS installation steps. Perform those steps you need in the exact order shown.

1. Install CD One product CD.

This operation takes about 30 minutes.

2. Install CD Two product CD.
| Refer to the Install and Set Up CD Two section in CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution Quick Reference Guide.
This operation takes about 10 minutes.

3. Install SLM product CD.
| Refer to the Install Service Level Manager (SLM) section in CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution Quick Reference Guide.
This operation takes about 10 minutes on Windows NT or about 15 minutes on Solaris.

4. Install and configure the Management Engine 1110 (ME1110).
| Refer to the Install and Set Up the Management Engine 1100 (ME1100) Series section in CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution Quick Reference Guide, and Release Notes for Management Engine 1100 Series for site preparation and safety information.

5. Set up the SLM.
| Refer to the Set Up Service Level Manager (SLM) section in CiscoWorks2000 Service Management Solution Quick Reference Guide.

Note SLM can be installed only on a system on which either Resource Manager Essentials 3.1 or CD Two has already been installed. |
