About This Guide
This section describes the objectives, audience, organization, and conventions of the Using Content Flow Monitor. It refers you to related publications and describes online sources of technical information.
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. This guide describes the tasks and commands for using the CFM application to monitor Cisco server load balancing devices from a web browser on any workstation.
This guide is intended for the network administrators or operators who are responsible for monitoring Cisco server load balancing devices. This guide assumes that you are familiar with basic internetworking concepts and terminology and understand network topology and protocols.
This guide is divided into the following chapters and appendixes:
- "Overview of CFM" provides an overview of the Cisco Content Flow Monitor application.
- "Configuring CFM to Monitor Cisco Server Load Balancing Devices" provides information on defining Cisco server load balancing devices to CFM.
- "Monitoring Cisco Server Load Balancing Devices" provides information on viewing status information and detailed statistics for all Cisco server load balancing devices being monitored by CFM.
- "CFM Window Reference" provides reference information for all windows in the CFM application. Details are provided on the fields, options, and buttons provided on each window.
- "CFM FAQs" provides answers to questions that users have frequently asked about CFM.
- "CFM Commands" provides a list of the CFM commands available when the CFM server is installed on a Solaris workstation. It also shows the format of the commands and a description of the actions that they perform.
- "Glossary" defines the terms and acronyms used in the CFM documentation set. It includes terms that are specific to CFM, Cisco IOS software, and Cisco Systems.
This guide uses basic conventions to represent text and table information.
Command descriptions in this guide use the following conventions:
- Commands and keywords are in boldface font.
- Arguments for which you supply values are in italic font.
- Elements in square brackets ([ ]) are optional.
- Alternative but required keywords are grouped in braces ({ }) and separated by a vertical bar (|).
Examples use the following conventions:
- Terminal sessions and information that the system displays are printed in
screen font.
- Information that you enter is in boldface screen font.
- Variables for which you enter actual data are printed in italic screen font.
- In examples, an exclamation point (!) at the beginning of a line in a router configuration indicates a comment line.
- Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are shown in angle brackets (< >).
- Information that the system displays is in
screen font, with default responses in square brackets ([ ]).
This publication also uses the following conventions:
- Menu items and button names are in boldface font.
- Directories and filenames are in italic font.
- If items such as buttons or menu options are grayed out on application windows, it means that the items are not available either because you do not have the correct permissions or because the item is not applicable at this time.

CFM includes an HTML-based help system that enables you to view information about the application from a browser. You can navigate through the help system using navigation menus or by clicking underlined text to access other help topics. The CFM online help system provides overview and how-to information, as well as glossary terms.
Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can register on CCO to obtain additional content and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.
CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
