Installing CFM on Windows NT

This chapter describes how to install the CFM server software on a Windows NT system. It also provides information on verifying, uninstalling, and reinstalling CFM on Windows NT.

Perform the following steps to install the CFM server software on a Windows NT system. If you need more details about any of the installation steps provided here, see the relevant sections of this chapter.


Step 1 Verify that your Windows NT system meets the requirements listed in the
"Server Hardware and Software Requirements" section.

Step 2 Insert the CFM CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 Select Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears.

Step 4 In the Open field, enter the following command:

drive:\setup.exe
 

Where drive is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.

Step 5 Click OK. The Installing Content Flow Monitor Welcome dialog box is displayed.

Step 6 Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the installation process.

Step 7 If port 4791/tcp is already in use, specify an alternate TCP port for the CFM server.

Step 8 Verify that you receive messages of successful completion of the installation.

Step 9 Verify that CFM is installed properly by starting the CFM server's interface. Double-click on the CFM Server icon on your desktop.


Server Hardware and Software Requirements

This section describes the hardware and software requirements to run the CFM server on a Windows NT workstation. It includes the following sections:


Note Hardware and software version information is subject to change, based on enhancements to the product. For the most current version information, refer to the Release Notes for Cisco Content Flow Monitor available on CCO.

Server Hardware Requirements

Your system must meet the following hardware requirements to run the CFM server:


Note Because you launch CFM from CiscoWorks2000 desktop, the memory and swap space requirements provided for the CFM server include the requirements that your system must meet to run CiscoWorks2000 desktop and CFM simultaneously on the same workstation.

Server Software Requirements

Your system must meet the following software requirements to run the CFM server:

Installing CFM on Windows NT

This section describes how to run the CFM installation program. The installation program takes approximately 2 or 3 minutes to complete on a PC with the minimum required hardware.


Note You must install CiscoWorks2000 CD One before you can install CFM. If you attempt to install CFM on a workstation that does not contain CiscoWorks2000 CD One, the installation program reminds you that you must install CiscoWorks2000 CD One first.

To run the CFM installation program:


Step 1 Insert the CFM CD-ROM into your system's CD-ROM drive.

Step 2 Select Start > Run. The Run dialog box is displayed.

Step 3 In the Open field, enter the following command:

drive:\setup.exe
 

Where drive is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.

Step 4 Click OK. The Content Flow Monitor Welcome dialog box is displayed.

Step 5 Click Next. The User Information dialog box is displayed.

Step 6 Enter your name and your company's name, then click Next. The Choose Destination Location dialog box is displayed indicating the directory where CFM will be installed in the CiscoWorks2000 directory tree.

Step 7 Click Next. The Select Components dialog box is displayed.

Step 8 Select the components to install. By default Content Flow Monitor is selected.

Step 9 Click Next. The Select Program Folder dialog box is displayed.

Step 10 Do one of the following:

The Select CFM Server Configuration dialog box is displayed.

Step 11 Do one of the following:

The Start Copying Files window is displayed (Figure 2-1) showing the current installation settings.

Step 12 To proceed with the installation using the specified settings, click Next. Otherwise, to make changes to any settings, click Back.

The Setup screen displays the progress of the installation. When installation is complete, the Setup Complete dialog box is displayed.

Step 13 Click Finish. The installation program shuts down. An icon for the Content Flow Monitor Server (Figure 2-2) is added to your desktop. CFM is also added to the specified program group on the Start menu.

Note By default CFM is installed in a subdirectory within the directory where CiscoWorks2000 CD One is installed (/CSCOpx/htdocs/cfm).


Verifying CFM on Windows NT

You can verify that the CFM server software have been successfully installed by performing the following tasks:

Starting the CFM Server

After you install the CFM software, verify that you can start the CFM server.

To start the CFM server on Windows NT:


Step 1 From your desktop, double-click on the Content Flow Monitor Server icon. The Server Administration window (
Figure 2-3) is displayed.

Note Exiting the Server Administration window shuts down the CFM server. To exit the Server Administration window, select File > Close.


Uninstalling CFM on Windows NT

The Uninstall option of the installation program removes the CFM files and settings.


Caution You must use the uninstall option of the CFM installation program to remove the product. If you attempt to remove CFM manually, you can damage your system.

To uninstall the CFM software on Windows NT:


Note To stop the uninstall process at any time, press Break or Ctrl-C.


Step 1 Select Start > Programs > Content Flow Monitor Server > Uninstall. The Uninstalling Content Flow Monitor Welcome dialog box is displayed.

Step 2 Click Next to begin uninstalling the CFM software. The Uninstallation dialog box is displayed and the uninstall begins.

Step 3 When the uninstall is complete, a dialog box appears with a message indicating that the uninstall was successful. Click OK to close the dialog box.


Reinstalling CFM on Windows NT

Before reinstalling the CFM software on your Windows NT system, you must first uninstall the existing version of the CFM software. Follow the instructions in the "Uninstalling CFM on Windows NT" section.

After you have uninstalled the existing version of the CFM software, you can reinstall the CFM software by following the instructions in the "Installing CFM on Windows NT" section.
