CWSI Campus is a suite of network management applications that allows you to configure, monitor, and manage a Cisco switched internetwork. CWSI Campus includes the following applications:
The CWSI Campus installation automatically installs the Network Map, VlanDirector, and UserTracking applications. The CiscoView, TrafficDirector, and AtmDirector applications are optional components.
This chapter consists of the following sections:
Table 3-1 provides an overview of the process of installing CWSI Campus and references to more details about each task. The information in the rest of this chapter follows the same order as the quick reference. You can use the quick reference as a checklist when performing the procedures.

4. Upgrading Previous Versions of CWSI Campus or CWSI
5. Using Multiple Copies of CWSI Campus
6. Installing Resource Manager Essentials
7. Determining Your Seed Device
For CWSI Campus system and network requirements, see the chapter "Before You Begin."
Install the browser that you will be using, if you have not already installed it. Make sure to launch the browser at least once to confirm the license registration.
If you use SunNet Manager (SNM), save your SNM maps before installing CWSI Campus.
To uninstall CWSI Campus, select Start > Programs > CWSI > Uninstall CWSI from the Start menu.
After uninstalling CWSI Campus, some directories and files might remain. If this is the case, delete these directories and files manually. If you are unable to delete them, and the message "the file is in use" appears, reboot your system. You should then be able to delete the remaining files.
If the installation program detects a previously installed version of CWSI Campus or CWSI, it will ask if you want to preserve the database and data files in a backup folder. If you want to save these files click Yes.
If you plan to install multiple copies of CWSI Campus on your network, you should be aware of how the CWSI Campus discovery process works in this environment.
The discovery process uses ANI, which runs as a server process and exchanges information with other CWSI Campus applications running as clients. Each ANIServer is intended to manage a single domain. Therefore, if you install another copy of CWSI Campus configured with the same ANIServer name (AniServer by default) in your network, unpredictable behavior might result depending on which ANI server the client chooses as its default ANIServer.
Depending on the available system resources on your initial CWSI Campus system, using the wrong ANI Server may result in poor system performance of all CWSI Campus systems that are accessing and using the resources of the default ANIServer.
If you want to install another copy of CWSI Campus to manage another domain, you must manually configure your systems to run separate ANIServer processes. To configure your systems, follow these steps:
Step 1 Close all CWSI Campus applications.
Step 2 Run the stopcwsiserver script (see "Stopping and Starting CWSI Campus Processes" in Getting Started with CWSI Campus).
Step 3 Locate and open the ani.properties file with a text editor.
The ani.properties file is located in the <CWSIROOT>/etc/cwsi/directory, where <CWSIROOT> is the directory in which you installed CWSI Campus.
Step 4 Change the following line to rename the ANIServer process running on your local workstation:
AniServer = AniServer_Name
For example, if you just installed a Solaris version of CWSI Campus, you could rename the ANIServer to SOLAniServer.
Step 5 After making these changes, save the file and close your text editor.
Step 6 Run the startcwsiserver script (see "Stopping and Starting CWSI Campus Processes" in Getting Started with CWSI Campus).
Install the Essentials application using the CD provided. Follow the instructions provided in the chapter "Installing Essentials."
For LANE discovery to work, specific versions are needed, as listed in Table 3-2.
| Device | Version |
|---|---|
Cisco IOS Release 11.2(8) | |
Cisco IOS Release 11.2(10) | |
NMP (2.4.3)/ATM 3.2(5) | |

The seed device you select during the CWSI Campus installation is determines whether the product operates correctly. Verify that the seed device meets the following requirements before installing CWSI Campus:
You can install CWSI Campus on a local disk or on a network-mounted Network File System (NFS) disk to which you have root access.
To install CWSI Campus, follow these steps:
Step 1 Make sure you have installed all prerequisite software as described in the previous section, "Preparing To Install CWSI Campus."
Step 2 Close all applications.
Step 3 Insert the CWSI Campus CD into your CD-ROM drive.
Step 4 Launch Windows NT Explorer.
Step 5 Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
Step 6 Double-click the setup.exe icon.
The Welcome window opens.
Step 7 Click Next.
The Software License Agreement window opens.
Step 8 Click Yes.
The User Information window opens.
Step 9 Enter your name and company.
Step 10 Click Next.
The Select Installation Option window opens.
Step 11 Select one of the following Network Management System (NMS) integration options:
Step 12 Click Next.
The Device Installation window opens.
Step 13 Select one or more devices to be installed.
Step 14 Click OK.
The Select Components window opens.
Step 15 Select one or both of the following components to be installed:
Step 16 Click Next.
The Choose Folder Destination window opens with a default destination (c:\cwsi) folder already entered.
Step 17 Accept the default destination or enter the directory in which you want to install CWSI Campus by clicking Browse.
Step 18 Click Next.
The Choose Database Destination window opens with a default destination (c:\cwsi\db\data) folder already entered.
Step 19 Accept the default destination or enter the directory in which you want to install CWSI Campus by clicking Browse.
Step 20 Click Next.
The Enter Information window opens.
Step 21 Enter the IP address or name of a seed device.
Step 22 Click Next.
The Select Program Folder window opens with a default destination folder (CWSI 2.2) already entered.
Step 23 Accept the default program folder, enter a new folder name, or select a folder from the list of existing folders.
Step 24 Click Next.
The Installation Window opens and indicates the percentage of the program that has been successfully installed. When the program installation is complete, the devices you selected are installed. The Setup Complete window opens.
Step 25 If the read community strings in your network are different from the default "public," you must edit the communities file before starting CWSI Campus and discovering your network. The file is named communities.dat and is located in the install directory\etc\cwsi directory.
Step 26 Select one of the following options:
Step 27 Click Finish to complete the CWSI Campus installation.
Step 28 Reboot your system for the installation to take effect.
Microsoft SQL 6.0 is required if you are using the TrendReporter utility in the CWSI Campus TrafficDirector application. For information about installing and configuring a SQL server, see the "Configuring SQL Servers," chapter in Using the Campus TrafficDirector Application.
Start CWSI Campus from the Windows NT menu bar or from your network management application. From the Windows NT menu bar, select Start > Programs > CWSI > Start CWSI.
Asynchronous Network Interface (ANI) begins the discovery process immediately after rebooting while the system is initializing. ANI runs as an NT service, as do the other daemons required for the correct operation of CWSI Campus. The initial discovery process may take up to five minutes (longer for a very large network) to complete.
If you attempt to log in to the CWSI Campus application before the CWSI Campus deamons have fully initialized and registered with the CORBA agent, an error occurs. To resolve this, wait several minutes until the daemons have initialized, and then log in again.
