Installing CWSI Campus

Installing CWSI Campus

CWSI Campus is a suite of network management applications that is a part of the CiscoWorks2000 family of products. These applications allow you to configure, monitor, and manage a Cisco switched internetwork. CWSI Campus includes the following applications:

The CWSI Campus installation automatically installs the Network Map, VlanDirector, and UserTracking applications. The CiscoView, TrafficDirector, and AtmDirector applications are optional components.

This chapter includes the following sections:

Quick Reference

Table 3-1 provides an overview of the process of installing CWSI Campus, and references to more detailed information about each task. The information in the rest of this chapter follows the same order as the quick reference.

Preparing To Install CWSI Campus

Before installing CWSI Campus, you need to make sure your system has been set up properly. Perform the steps in the following sequence:

    1. Verifying System and Network Requirements

    2. Installing Your Browser

    3. Removing Previous Versions of CWSI Campus or CWSI

    4. Installing Resource Manager Essentials

    5. Determining Your Seed Device

    6. Determining Which CiscoView Device Packages To Install

    7. Installing CWSI Campus

Verifying System and Network Requirements

For CWSI Campus system and network requirements, see the chapter "Before You Begin."

Installing Your Browser

Install the browser that you will be using, if you have not already installed it. Make sure to launch the browser at least once to confirm the license registration.

Removing Previous Versions of CWSI Campus or CWSI

If a previous version of CWSI Campus or CWSI is installed, you might want to remove it. This step is optional. Reinstalling or upgrading CWSI Campus without removing previous versions will give you the option of preserving the CWSI database and data files.

To remove previous versions of CWSI Campus or CWSI, use the uninstall command as follows:

# cd /
# /usr/CSCOcwsi/bin/uninstall.sh

Installing Resource Manager Essentials

Install the Essentials application using the CD provided. Follow the instructions in the chapter "Installing Essentials."

Note Make sure your system meets the software requirements necessary for successfully installing and running the Essentials application. CWSI Campus will not run properly unless the Essentials application and all of its prerequisite software are installed.

Determining Your Seed Device

During the installation, you will be prompted for a seed device. The seed device is the device from which you start the discovery process. The seed device can be any Cisco device with the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) enabled (for example, a Catalyst 5000 switch) and a valid read SNMP community string.

If you have an ATM network, you need to select a LightStream 1010 switch as the seed device for the discovery. The LightStream 1010 switch should be located near a Catalyst 5000 switch on the network. This configuration allows the LAN Emulation (LANE) components to be properly discovered using Interim Local Management Interface (ILMI).

For LANE discovery to work, the software versions shown in Table 3-2 are needed on these devices.

The seed device you supply during the CWSI Campus installation is required for the product to operate correctly. Verify that the seed device meets the following requirements before you install CWSI Campus:

Determining Which CiscoView Device Packages To Install

During the CiscoView installation portion of the CWSI Campus installation, you will be prompted to select the device packages (.pkg files) you need based on the devices you plan to use. Make sure you know the types of devices you plan on using and managing in your network.

Installing CWSI Campus

You can install CWSI Campus on a local disk or on a network-mounted Network File System (NFS) disk to which you have root access. Follow the instructions in this section to install CWSI Campus and to set paths and environments.

Note You can terminate the installation by pressing Ctrl-C. If you terminate before the installation is complete, you must begin the installation again at Step 1.

Installing CWSI Campus

To install CWSI Campus, follow these steps:

Step 1 Become superuser by entering su and the root password at the command prompt, or log in as root.

Step 2 Insert the CWSI Campus CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 Mount the CWSI Campus CD-ROM by entering the following command:

    # /usr/sbin/mount -r -v cdrfs /dev/cd0 /cdrom

Step 4 Enter the following commands:

    # cd /cdrom
    # ./setup.sh

Step 5 You are prompted to select the optional components that you want to install.

    1	CSCOcv CiscoView 4.x
    2	CSCOtd TrafficDirector
    3	CSCOatmd AtmDirector

Select optional components you wish to install ('all' or 'none' to install all or none of these components). (default: all) [q]:

Step 6 Enter the appropriate option, then press Return.

Step 7 Enter information or press Return for the default response (in square brackets) to the following questions:

Enter seed device name or IP address:
Enter full netscape browser executable pathname:
Enter TCP port number to use for DB: [8000]

The values you enter or confirm are displayed.

Step 8 Enter y to accept these values.

As the installation proceeds, filenames for the CWSI Campus, CiscoView, TrafficDirector, and AtmDirector applications are displayed as they are installed. Each application takes approximately 10 minutes to install, depending on your system configuration.

Installing CiscoView

At the prompt, enter the number corresponding to the device files you want to install. To install all the device files, press Return.

Installing TrafficDirector and AtmDirector

If you chose to install the TrafficDirector and AtmDirector applications, they are installed automatically in the /usr/CSCOcwsi directory.

Completing the Installation

To complete your installation, follow these steps:

Step 1 Type q to exit the setup menu, which is redisplayed when the installation is complete.

Step 2 Remove the CD-ROM and store it in a safe place.

The cwsiinstall.log file contains information for the CiscoView, TrafficDirector, and AtmDirector applications. Be sure to save this file to help you troubleshoot future installation problems.

Verifying Your SNMP Community Strings

If the Read community strings in your network are different from the default "public," you will need to edit the communities file after installing and before starting CWSI Campus and discovering your network. The communities file is named communities.dat and is located in the usr/etc/cwsi directory.

Installing Additional Software

Several of the CWSI Campus applications require additional software, which can be installed after the CWSI Campus installation.

Starting CWSI Campus

Launch CWSI Campus using the following startup command:

/usr/CSCOcwsi/bin/cwsi

Launch the VlanDirector, AtmDirector, UserTracking, TrafficDirector, and CiscoView applications from the main CWSI Campus window.

If you have not installed a particular component (such as AtmDirector), that option is not available in the main CWSI Campus menu.

Removing CWSI Campus

To remove CWSI Campus, use the uninstall command as follows:

# cd /
# /usr/CSCOcwsi/bin/uninstall.sh

Note You must remove CWSI Campus before you remove Essentials.

Adding New Device Support for CiscoView

To add new devices to CiscoView, access Cisco Connection Online (CCO). Instructions on how to download additional devices for CiscoView using the cvinstall command are available on CCO or on the anonymous ftp server in the Network Management section of the Software Center. These instructions are also included in CiscoView Incremental Installation Quick Reference, which is on the Documentation CD.

To incrementally add device support from CCO, follow these steps:

Step 1 Download the device package files from CCO into the cv_pkgs directory.

Step 2 Untar the package by entering the following command:

    # tar -xvf tar_filename

Step 3 Set your NMSROOT environment variable, as follows:

    # setenv NMSROOT /usr/CSCOcwsi

Step 4 Go to the cv_pkgs directory by entering the following command:

    # cd /cdrom/cv_pkgs

Step 5 To install the package, log in as root and enter the following command:

    $NMSROOT/bin/cvinstall device_name.pkg
