CWSI Campus is part of the CiscoWorks2000 family of network management tools. CiscoWorks2000 also includes Resource Managers Essentials (Essentials). As part of CiscoWorks2000, CWSI Campus and Essentials share common background processes. You must install Essentials before installing CWSI Campus, but the two packages do not share a common user interface.
Essentials consists of a suite of web-based network management tools that enables administrators to collect the monitoring, fault, and availability information needed to track devices that are critical to the network. Essentials also provides the administration tools needed to rapidly and reliably deploy and upgrade Cisco devices. For additional information and assistance using Essentials, see the Getting Started with Resource Manager Essentials publication or the Essentials online help.
CWSI Campus is a suite of network management applications that allow you to configure, monitor, and manage a switched internetwork. The CWSI Campus applications provide you with a graphical user interface (GUI) of your network topology, configuration, and management.
These sections provide an overview of CWSI Campus:
Table 1-1 describes the CWSI Campus applications.
| CWSI Campus Application | What It Does |
|---|---|
CWSI Campus map | CWSI Campus map provides a map of the physical devices and links in your discovered network. It allows you to locate a specific device or link in the network, and view and understand how the devices are linked together. CWSI Campus map also allows you to view the virtual topology of your virtual LAN (VLAN) configuration in relation to the physical topology. |
VlanDirector is a VLAN configuration and management tool that enables you to display, configure, modify, and manage VLANs. It also allows you to display reports on VLAN status and membership. | |
UserTracking simplifies moves within VLANs and tracks end user information. If an end station is moved and plugged into another port, UserTracking provides configuration information from the Media Access Control (MAC)-VLAN mapping that allows the device to remain on the original VLAN without manual reconfiguration. You can also verify and look up end-station changes in the UserTracking database. | |
CiscoView displays a graphical representation of a device and allows you to configure and monitor device chassis, port, and interface information. It also provides color-coded indicators to monitor port status. | |
TrafficDirector provides Remote Monitoring (RMON), protocol analysis, application usage monitoring, traffic analysis, and troubleshooting of network performance problems. | |
AtmDirector discovers Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switches, physical links, and permanent and switched virtual circuits. It provides performance monitoring of ATM switches and links within the ATM network, and traffic analysis of RMON-enabled ATM links. AtmDirector also allows you to display and monitor ATM-VLANs and Private Network-to-Network Interface (PNNI) components and their status in the network. |
Table 1-2 lists common management tasks and describes how to perform them using the CWSI Campus applications.
