As a network administrator, you need to understand your network topology. You want a graphical representation of the devices in your network, and you want a listing of end-user stations. You can use this information:
This scenario focuses on obtaining this graphical view and list of end-user stations. To do this, refer to these sections:

Use these procedures to obtain a physical network topology and a list of end stations:
Step 2 Refer to the Getting Started with CiscoWorks2000 guide for a detailed explanation of all that is involved in setting up and starting the discovery process.
Before proceeding with the remainder of the procedure, you need to wait until the discovery process is complete. If you attempt to launch Topology Services before discovery is complete, Topology Services will start, but an indicator light will warn that discovery is still in progress.
Step 2 Expand the Network Views folder by clicking the plus sign next to the folder.
Step 3 Click Layer 2 View.
Step 4 You can customize the table by rearranging the order of the columns and by clicking on the column heading to sort the entries by the data contained in the column. In this scenario, you retain the order of the columns, but sort by device name by clicking on the Device Name column heading.
Step 5 From the Topology Services menu bar, select File > Print. (See Figure 5-1.)
To print a graphical view of the Layer 2 devices:
Step 2 Click View > Display View. The Layer 2 view appears. If the layout is not readable, from the Topology Service menu bar, select View > Relayout > To Visible Size.
Step 3 You can include device names on the view. However, you might not need to display the domain name suffix; in this case, you can exclude this information from the device name. To do this:
a. Select Edit > Map Preferences.The window shown in Figure 5-2 appears
b. Click Edit Defaults.... The window shown in Figure 5-3 appears.
c. Enter the domain suffix that you want to exclude if it is not already present. For example, enter .domain_name.com.
d. Click the check box for Trim Domain Suffix on Labels.
e. Click Apply in the Client Default Values window.
f. Click Apply in the Client Map Properties window.

Note Only devices that can fit on the page are printed. If your network is too large and all devices are not able to fit on the printout, you can print graphical views of individual network segments. Use this procedure as a guideline; however instead display and print each network segment listed in the LAN Edge View. |
Step 4 From the Topology Services menu bar, select File > Print. (See Figure 5-4.)
Before you print a list of end stations, make sure the User Tracking discovery has been performed.
To print a list of end stations:
The User Tracking window appears containing a list of end stations if you have configured it to show all end stations when the application is started; otherwise, you can select Query > Show All or a customized query to show desired end-stations. In this case, you have User Tracking set to show all end stations when you start the application.
Step 2 Click the column heading to sort the list according to the elements in the column. For example, click UserName to sort the list by user name.
Step 3 Select File > Print. (See Figure 5-5.)
Keep this information about your network. As you make changes to your network topology, you will want to regenerate this information to keep your information current.
