Using Cisco  TN3270 Monitor

Using Cisco  TN3270 Monitor

The Cisco  TN3270 Monitor application is a UNIX-only application that allows you to monitor statistics, get Systems Network Architecture (SNA) related information, and view TN3270 server events. For each instance of the Cisco  TN3270 Server running in the specified router, the Cisco  TN3270 Monitor establishes a TCP/IP connection to the first Cisco  TN3270 Server-configured physical unit (PU) (using the IP address) and begins polling for the tn3270sGlobalTable and tn3270sStatsTable MIB variables. The TCP/IP connection allows the router to send Cisco  TN3270 Server events to the Cisco  TN3270 Monitor program. You can then view the events in filtered views.

For information on how to configure the Cisco TN3270 Server, see the following URL:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios102/accscg/56868.htm

For information on how to tune the Cisco  TN3270 Server, refer to the online help.

This appendix contains the following sections:

Using the TN3270 Monitor - Global Statistics Window

The TN3270 Monitor - Global Statistics window is the initial window for the TN3270 Monitor program. This window displays transaction counts, response time measurements, and other TN3270 server statistics for the first TN3270 instance running in the router. If  more than one TN3270 server is running in the router, the TN3270 Server Instance button can be used to select the desired instance. The statistics are refreshed periodically, determined by the polling period. The polling interval is dynamically configured in the Preferences window.

The File, View, and Options items in the menu bar allow you to access the functions of TN3270 Monitor. These are described in Table D-1 through Table D-3.
