Installing Required Software Packages

A full installation of CSRC requires these software packages to operate properly. This chapter provides installation-specific information you will need as you install the following software packages:

Perl version 5.00503 or higher, if it is not already installed
Cisco Network Registrar version 3.0 (1)T or higher Technology (T) version
Web server, if it is not already installed
LDAP version 3 compliant directory server
Netscape Application Server version 2.1 SP7 or higher for Solaris

What You Will Need

In addition to a copy of the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (see Figure 2-1), Table 3-1 lists the installation kits, utilities, and files you need to install the CSRC required software packages.

Installing the Required Software Packages

Note For information about gzip, see <http://www.gnu.org/software/gzip/gzip.html>. You can download the gzip source code from <ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gzip/gzip-1.2.4.tar>.

Perl Installation

The following sections describe the installation requirements for Perl and how to install the binary distribution and source distribution of Perl.

CSRC Perl Installation Requirements

All of the CSRC software packages require that you install Perl on the same host on which each package is installed. If you install multiple CSRC packages on the same host, you only need to install Perl once on that host.

As you install Perl, do the following:

Install Perl on the same host as you install the CSCOcsrcd package and the LDAP server software.
Install Perl on the same host as you install the CSCOcsrcw package, the CNR user interface, the Web server, and NAS.
Install Perl on the same host as you install the CSCOcsrcn package and the CNR servers.
Install Perl on the same host as you install the CSCOcsrcu package and the CNR user interface.

Using the CSRC Installation Worksheet for Perl

As you install Perl, be sure to indicate the pathname of the Perl executable (box 1) on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (see Figure 2-1).

Step 1---Install Perl

Step 1 of the CSRC installation process is to install Perl version 5.00503 or higher in the /opt/csrc/perl directory. You can obtain a copy of Perl in the following ways:

You can extract a Perl binary distribution from the CSRC CD-ROM in the Perl/ directory.
You can unzip the source distribution for Perl version 5.00503 from the CSRC distribution media and recompile it.

Note

You can download a copy of Perl version 5.00503 or higher from the Internet.

Note If you download Perl from the Internet, use the perl -V

(uppercase V) command to display the version number of the software you downloaded and to ensure that the software can find its associated libraries.

Perl Installation Procedure (Binary Distribution)

If you obtain Perl from the CSRC distribution media, you must install it in the /opt/csrc directory on your Solaris system. You can install it in another directory; however, if you do you will need to compile it.

To install Perl, do the following:

Step 1 Enter the following command to change to the /opt directory:

# cd /opt

Step 2 Enter the following command to make the csrc directory, if it does not already exist:

# mkdir csrc

Step 3 Enter the following command to change to the csrc directory:

# cd csrc

Step 4 Enter the following command to copy Perl from the distribution media to the csrc directory:

# cp /cdrom/csrc_1_0/Perl/Solaris/perl-install.tar.gz .

where cdrom is the installation media

Step 5 Enter one of the following commands to unpack the perl-install.tar.gz file:

gunzip

# gunzip -c perl-install.tar.gz | tar xvf -

gzip

# gzip -dc perl-install.tar.gz | tar xvf -

Step 6 Enter the following command to remove the perl-install.tar.gz file since it is no longer needed:

# rm perl-install.tar.gz

This completes the Perl binary installation. Perl is now successfully installed.

Perl Installation Procedure (Source Distribution)

If you build Perl from the source distribution, the install location is compiled into it (for example, the location of its support library directory). Therefore, when you invoke Perl, it uses the compiled-in directory path to resolve references to support scripts. If the scripts are not located in the expected location, Perl cannot process CSRC requests. For this reason, you cannot bundle the Perl distribution in its installation directory location on one host and simply unbundle it in another directory location on another host, unless the directory locations are identical.

Note On a Solaris system, you can unbundle a Perl distribution into a different directory location if you create the correct directory path on the target host and you create a soft-link on the target host from the correct directory path to the new directory under which Perl actually resides.

What to Do After You Install Perl

After you install Perl, execute the following command to verify that Perl is functioning correctly:

# /opt/csrc/perl/bin/perl -V

If the Perl installation is not valid, executing perl -V (uppercase V) results in a series of errors. If this occurs, do the following:

Verify that Perl is installed in the /opt/csrc directory and that the Perl executable is located in /opt/csrc/perl/bin/perl.
Verify that you are executing the correct instance of Perl on your system, either by using an explicit path to Perl or by using ./perl to use Perl in the current directory.
If you are using other Perl binary files, try installing the Perl binary distribution on the CSRC distribution media.
If you installed the CSRC Perl binary distribution and Perl is installed in the /opt/csrc directory, and you are executing the correct instance of Perl, then contact Cisco Customer Support.

Cisco Network Registrar Installation

The following sections describe the installation requirements for Cisco Network Registrar (CNR) and how to configure CNR for CSRC.

CSRC CNR Installation Requirements

All of the CSRC software packages require CNR version 3.0 (1)T or higher Technology (T) version, except the CSCOcsrcd package. This package does not require CNR.

As you install CNR, be sure you do the following:

Install the server component of CNR on the same host as you install the CSCOcsrcn package.
Install the graphical user interface (GUI ) component of CNR on the same host(s) as you install the CSCOcsrcw and CSCOcsrcu packages.

For more information about the CSRC software packages, see Table 4-1.

Using the CSRC Installation Worksheet for CNR

As you install CNR, be sure to indicate the following information on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (see Figure 2-1):

CNR host name parameter (box 2)---The name of host on which the network servers are installed.
CNR administrator username parameter (box 3)---The username of the CNR administrator who has access to the CNR database. The default is admin.
CNR administrator password parameter (box 4)---The password for the CNR administrator username you indicated in the CNR User Name parameter. The default is changeme.
CNR license key (box 5)---The 16-digit license located on the back of the CNR distribution media.

Step 2---Install Cisco Network Registrar

Step 1 of the CSRC installation process is to install Cisco Network Registrar (CNR ) version 3.0 (1)T or higher Technology (T) version for CSRC to function properly. You must install the user interface component (GUI component) of CNR on the same host(s) as the CSCOcsrcw and CSCOcsrcu packages. You must install the servers component of CNR on the same host as the CSCOcsrcn package.

What to Do if CNR is Already Installed

If you already have CNR installed, check the version number of the installed software to ensure that it meets the CSRC requirement. To check the CNR version number, do the following:

Step 1 Open the CNR graphical user interface (GUI ) using the following command:

/opt/nwreg2/usrbin/ntwkreg

Step 2 In the Help menu, select the About Network Registrar option. The CNR version displays in the window that appears.

Note CNR version 3.0 is not compatible with CSRC. You must install CNR version 3.0 (1)T or higher Technology version.

CNR Installation Procedure

To install CNR, enter the following command line to start the CNR installer:

# pkgadd -d /cdrom/nr_3_0_1_t/solaris/see_readme_before_using nwreg2

where -d cdrom specifies the CD-ROM directory containing the CNR installer.

Follow the installer and install the appropriate CNR components on the hosts specified in the "CSRC CNR Installation Requirements" section.

What to Do After You Install CNR

After you install the proper version of CNR, you must configure at least one cluster and set the CNR license key for that cluster. If you do not do this before you begin installing the CSRC software packages, CSRC will not install successfully.

The license key is located on the back of the CNR distribution media. You must enter your license the first time you configure a cluster.

To set the license key and configure one cluster, do the following:

Step 1 Enter the following command to start the CNR graphical user interface (GUI):

/opt/nwreg2/usrbin/ntwkreg

Step 2 From the Admin menu, select Clusters.

Step 3 In the Cluster dialog box, click Add Cluster.

Step 4 In the Add Cluster dialog box, enter the cluster name. The cluster name must be the name of the host on which the database runs. This is usually the name of the DNS server.

Step 5 Select the Connect to this cluster checkbox. You must connect to the cluster to set the license key.

Step 6 Click OK.

Step 7 In the Login for Cluster dialog box for that cluster, enter the username and password.

Step 8 Click OK.

Step 9 From the License dialog box, click New Key.

Step 10 From the Cluster Properties dialog box, select Edit License Key.

Step 11 Enter the 16-digit license.

Step 12 Click OK.

Web Server Installation

Step 3 of the CSRC installation process is to install a Web server. CSRC operates with most Web servers. If you do not have a Web server currently installed, you must install one. The following sections describe the installation requirements and the installation procedures for installing the Apache Web server that is distributed on the CSRC distribution media.

For information on installing the Netscape Enterprise Web server, see "Netscape Enterprise Server."

CSRC Web Server Installation Requirements

The CSCOcsrcw software package requires that you install a Web server on the same host as the CSCOcsrcw package. The CSRC distribution media contains an installation kit for the Apache Web server. You can choose to purchase and install a different Web server.

Using the CSRC Installation Worksheet for Apache

As you install the Apache Web server, be sure to indicate the following information on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (see Figure 2-1):

DocumentRoot parameter (box 6)---The absolute path of the HTML document root directory. The httpd.conf configuration file in the /opt/csrc/apache/conf directory contains this parameter value.
cgi-bin directory parameter (box 7)---The absolute path of the CGI binaries directory. The httpd.conf configuration file contains this parameter value.
Username parameter (box 8)---The username under which the Web server runs. The default is nobody. The httpd.conf configuration file contains this parameter value.
Port number parameter (box 9)---The port number for the Web server. The default is 80. The httpd.conf configuration file contains this parameter value.

Step 3---Install the Web Server

The CSRC distribution media contains an installation kit for the Apache Web server.

Apache Installation Procedure

Install the Apache Web server as root so you can use the default Web server port 80.

To install Apache, do the following:

Step 1 Enter the following command to change to the /opt/csrc directory:

# cd /opt/csrc

Step 2 Enter the following command to copy Apache from the distribution media to the csrc directory:

# cp /cdrom/csrc_1_0/Apache/Solaris/apache-install.tar.gz .

where cdrom is the installation media

Step 3 Enter one of the following commands to unpack the apache-install.tar.gz file:

gunzip

# gunzip -c apache-install.tar.gz | tar xvf -

gzip

# gzip -dc apache-install.tar.gz | tar xvf -

Step 4 Enter the following command to remove the apache-install.tar.gz file since it is no longer needed:

# rm apache-install.tar.gz

This completes the Apache installation.

What to Do After You Install Apache

After you finish installing the Apache Web server, edit the httpd.conf file in the /opt/csrc/apache/conf directory as follows:

Add the following aliases and access permissions in the order in which they are listed here. If you are using a version of Apache that was not distributed with CSRC, refer to that version's documentation for the attributes required to configure permissions for additional directories.

Search for the ErrorDocument parameter and add the following line:

ErrorDocument 404 /csrc/ur-redirect.html

If you install the Netscape Communicator 4.6 or higher browser to operate with the Apache Web server, you must do the following to change the application's default fonts:

Step 1 In the Edit menu, select Preferences.

Step 2 Under Appearance, select Fonts.

Step 3 Change the Variable Width Font from Times (Adobe) to Times (Linotype).

Step 4 Change the Fixed Width Font from Courier (Adobe) to Courier.

Step 4---Install the LDAP Directory Server

Step 4 of the CSRC installation process is to install an LDAP version 3 compliant server.

For information about installing NDS, see "Netscape Directory Server."

Netscape Application Server Installation

The following sections describe the installation requirements and how to install Netscape Application Server (NAS).

CSRC NAS Installation Requirements

The CSCOcsrcw software package provides the Web-based user interface to CSRC. You must install NAS on the same host as you install CSCOcsrcw. You must also install Perl, the CNR user interface, and the Web server on this host.

Using the CSRC Installation Worksheet for NAS

The NAS installer asks you to specify information that you provided when installing the Web server and it asks you to specify NAS parameters that the CSRC installer requires. As you answer the installer's questions, refer to the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (see Figure 2-1) to answer the following questions about the Web server parameters:

Web server DocumentRoot parameter (box 6)---The absolute path of the HTML document root directory for the Web server.
Web server cgi-bin directory parameter (box 7)---The absolute path of the CGI binaries directory for the Web server.
Web server username parameter (box 8)---The username of the Web server being used with NAS.
Web server port number parameter (box 9)---The value of the Port parameter in the httpd.conf configuration file.
Web server instance parameter (box 10)---The full path of the Web server instance if the Web server is the Netscape Enterprise Server.

Be sure to also indicate on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" the following NAS parameters:

NAS installation root directory parameter (box 17) ---The full path of the directory in which you are installing NAS.
NAS owner username parameter (box 18)---The user ID of the user under which the NAS processes run. The default is the owner of the NAS installation root directory.
NAS product key parameter (box 19)---The key provided on hardcopy in the CSRC product kit.

Step 5---Install the Netscape Application Server

Step 5 of the CSRC installation process is to install the Netscape Application Server (NAS) version 2.1 SP7 or higher for Solaris. The CSRC distribution media contains pre-compiled NAS binary files for Solaris 2.6.

For sample NAS installations, see the following appendixes in this guide:

NAS Installation Procedure

To start the NAS installation, enter the following commands:

# cd /cdrom/csrc_1_0/NAS/nas211_sp7_beta1/Solaris
# ./setup_NAS.sh

where cdrom is the installation media

During NAS installation, specify the following information at the installer's prompt:

When asked for the installation mode, select Install NAS with Web Server Connect Plugin. This option installs all of the components needed for CSRC to work correctly.

When asked to specify the product key for NAS, enter the key provided on hardcopy in the CSRC product kit (box 19 on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet"). For example:

Enter the product key for Netscape Application Server (NAS): product key

The default values are acceptable for each of the installation configuration steps. Make sure that you configure the NAS to have one KJS process. However, when asked to specify the number of KCS processes, enter zero (0) at the prompt. For example:

Enter the number (0-32) of C++ Servers (KCS) to install. [1]: 0

Tips
During the initial installation, if you do not specify zero for the number of KCS processes, the NAS installer confirms all of the values you enter. Change the value of KIVAcs to be zero, following the online instructions.

When you install NAS with the Netscape Enterprise Server, the installer asks you to specify the full path to the Web server instance (box 10 on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet"). Enter the appropriate path at the prompt. The default is /usr/netscape/suitespot/https-servername.
If you are using a Web server other than NES version 3.6 or ITS version 4.0, select Other when asked to specify the Web server type. If you select Other, the Web server type is set to NONE and the Web server instance is blank.

What to Do After You Install NAS

Verify that NAS is installed by executing one of the sample applications. For more information, see the NAS documentation.
