You can use the Modem Registrar user interface to manage individual cable modems as described in this chapter. You can create an option set for each particular cable modem you choose to configure. Modem Registrar does not require that you create cable modem option sets or that you define DOCSIS options for the cable modem option sets you do create.
The number of cable modem option sets you define can be quite large if you define an option set for each cable modem in your installation. For this reason, you will typically want to use cable modem option sets sparingly and for special circumstances only.
Figure 11-1 shows the hierarchy of the user interface pages used to configure the cable modem option set.

You can use the Configure Option Sets page (see Figure 11-2) to select the option set(s) you want to configure.

To configure and list the cable modem option sets, click Cable Modem. The Search Cable Modems page appears.
You can use the Search Cable Modems page (see Figure 11-3) to search the directory database for specific cable modems. Modem Registrar displays the cable modems that match your search criteria.

To search for specific cable modems, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.
Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Cable Modem.
Step 4 On the Search Cable Modems page, do one of the following:
Step 5 Click Search by MAC Address or Search by IP Address, depending on the field in which you entered your search criteria.
After you click Search by MAC Address, the page redisplays showing the cable modems that match your search criteria. By default, the page displays the first 20 matching cable modems. To display a different number of matching cable modems, enter the appropriate number in the lines per screen field.
To display the previous screen of matching cable modems, click
.
To display the next screen of matching cable modems, click
.
After you click Search by IP Address, at most, only one cable modem will match your search criteria.
You can use the List All CM Options page (see Figure 11-4) to list all of the DOCSIS options that apply to a cable modem option set.

To list cable modem options, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.

Step 6 In the list of cable modems, click List All CM Options for the cable modem whose options you want to list.
If Modem Registrar can determine the modem's lease IP address, the List All CM Options page (see Figure 11-4) appears, listing all of the options that apply to that cable modem.
If Modem Registrar cannot determine the modem's lease IP address, the Unknown IP Address page appears. For more information, see the "Listing Cable Modem Options When the IP Address is Unknown" section.
Step 7 After you are finished viewing the cable modem options, click OK. The Search Cable Modems page appears.
The Unknown IP Address page (see Figure 11-5) appears if you click List All CM Options on the Search Cable Modems page and Modem Registrar cannot determine a valid lease IP address for the cable modem.
You can use the Unknown IP Address page to select a subnet option set and a DOCSIS version. Modem Registrar then lists the cable modem options defined for the cable modem whose lease IP address, if known, would have mapped to the subnet option set you selected. Modem Registrar applies the DOCSIS version you selected when it generates the list of options.

To list the DOCSIS options for a cable modem whose lease IP address is undetermined, do the following:
Step 1 On the Unknown IP Address page, select a subnet option set from the Subnet pull-down list. The option set you select is the subnet to which the particular cable modem is associated.
Step 2 Select the DOCSIS version you are using from the DOCSIS Version pull-down list.
The DOCSIS Version pull-down list displays the DOCSIS versions you can select. The default is DOCSIS version 1.0.
Step 3 Click List All CM Options. The List All CM Options page appears, listing all of the DOCSIS options that apply to the cable modem.
You can use the Edit CM Options page (see Figure 11-6) to do the following:
