Configuring Subnet Option Sets

Configuring Subnet Option Sets

You can use the Modem Registrar user interface to define and configure subnet option sets as described in this chapter. The subnet option set associates a given subnet with the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) that services the subnet. Modem Registrar requires that you create subnet options sets; however, you are not required to define DOCSIS options for the sets. You can choose to create subnet option sets that do not contain any options.

Subnet User Interface Pages

Figure 9-1 shows the hierarchy of the user interface pages used to configure subnet option sets.

Figure 9-1:
Hierarchy of Subnet Option Set Pages

Selecting Subnet Option Sets to Configure

You can use the Configure Option Sets page (Figure 9-2) to select the option set(s) you want to configure.

Figure 9-2: Configure Option Sets Page

To configure subnet option sets, click Subnet. The Subnet Option Set List page appears.

Listing Subnet Option Sets

You can use the Subnet Option Set List page (see Figure 9-3) to list subnet option sets currently defined.

Figure 9-3: Subnet Option Set List Page

To list the subnet option sets currently defined, do the following:

Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.

Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.

Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Subnet.

Step 4 On the Subnet Option Set List page, do the following:

After you click Search, the page redisplays showing the subnets that match your search criteria. By default, the page displays the first 20 matching subnets. To display a different number of matching subnets, enter the appropriate number in the lines per screen field.
To display the previous screen of matching subnets, click
.
To display the next screen of matching subnets, click
.

Managing Subnet Option Sets

You can use the Subnet Option Set List page (see Figure 9-3) to access the user interface pages used to do the following:

Adding Subnet Option Sets

You can use the Add Subnet Option Set page (see Figure 9-4) to define a new subnet option set.

Figure 9-4: Add Subnet Option Set Page

To add a subnet option set, do the following:

Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.

Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.

Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Subnet.

Step 4 On the Subnet Option Set List page, click Add Option Set.

Step 5 On the Add Subnet Option Set page, enter the name of the new subnet option set in the Subnet Option Set Name field. This name must be unique.

For example: 161.44.133.0/24

where 161.44.133.0 is the IP address and 24 is the subnet mask.

The subnet option set name must be composed of an IP address, a forward slash, and a subnet mask number. For example:

<ipaddress>/<mask>

where:

<ipaddress> has the format aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd, where aaa, bbb, ccc, and ddd are all integers:

0 is less than aaa and aaa is less than 224
0 is less than or equal to bbb and bbb is less than or equal to 255
0 is less than or equal to ccc and ccc is less than or equal to 255
0 is less than or equal to ddd and ddd is less than or equal to 255

<mask> is an integer.

Step 6 Select the CMTS that will service this subnet from the Servicing CMTS pull-down list.

Step 7 Enter a description of the new subnet option set in the Description field to further identify it. This field is optional. You can choose to leave this field blank.

Step 8 Click OK to add the new option set.

If the new subnet option set name you entered and all of the other information you entered are valid, the new option set is added and the Subnet Option Set List page appears.

If any of the information is invalid, a message appears asking you to correct the invalid information.

Step 9 To assign options to the new subnet option set, see the "Adding Subnet Options" section.

Cloning Subnet Option Sets

You can use the Clone Subnet Option Set page (see Figure 9-5) to create a new subnet option set using the settings of an existing subnet option set.

Step 5 On the Clone Subnet Option Set page, select the subnet option set that you want to copy from the Clone from Option Set pull-down list. This list contains the names of all of the subnet option sets currently defined.

Step 6 Enter the name of the subnet option set you are creating in the Clone to Option Set field. This name must be unique.

Step 7 Enter the description for the new subnet option set in the Description field to further identify it. This field is optional. You can choose to leave this field blank.

Step 8 Click OK to add the new option set.

If the subnet option set name you entered and all of the information in the other fields are valid, the new subnet option set is added and the Subnet Option Set List page appears.

If any of the information is invalid, a message appears asking you to correct the invalid information.

Step 9 To modify the cloned option set, see the "Modifying Subnet Option Sets" section.

Modifying Subnet Option Sets

You can use the Edit Subnet Option Set page (see Figure 9-6) to do the following:

Note A neighborhood provides a means of grouping computers, and contains shared settings that affect the provisioning of subscribers. A neighborhood may also administer to one or more shared cable modems. You can use the User Registrar application to create neighborhood objects. For more information, see the User Registrar User's Guide.
