You can use the Modem Registrar user interface to configure the default option set. This high-level option set contains DOCSIS options that apply to most cable modems. Cisco recommends that you assign options to the default option set before assigning options for other option set scopings.
This chapter describes how to assign and modify default options for the default option set.
Figure 6-1 shows the hierarchy of the user interface pages used to configure the default option set.

You can use the Configure Option Sets page (see Figure 6-2) to select the option set you want to configure.

To select the default option set, click Default. The Edit Default Option Set page appears.
You can use the Edit Default Option Set page (see Figure 6-3) to do the following:

To modify the default neighborhood, select a neighborhood object from the Edit Default Neighborhood pull-down list. Setting a default neighborhood is optional, and the selection defaults to <none>.
To assign and modify options common to all service types and levels, click Common Options.
To assign and modify options for a specific service type and level, select a service type from the Service Type pull-down list and click Type/Level Options.
To list the DOCSIS options currently defined in the default option set, click List All Options.
You can use the List Default Options page (see Figure 6-4) to list all of the default options currently defined in the default option set.

To list the default options, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.
Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Default.
Step 4 On the Edit Default Option Set page, click List All Options. The List Default Options page appears, listing all of the options currently defined for the default option set.
Step 5 To hide the suboption values of compound options, click Shrink.
Step 6 To display the suboption values of compound options, click Expand.
Step 7 Click OK to close this page. The Edit Default Option Set page appears.
You can use the Edit Default Options page (see Figure 6-5) to do the following:

You can use the Edit Default Options page (see Figure 6-5) to add options to the default option set.
To add a default option, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.
Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Default.
Step 4 On the Edit Default Option Set page, do one of the following:
Step 5 On the Edit Default Options page, select a discrete option number from the Add Option pull-down list and click Add Option.
Step 6 In the corresponding Value field for the new option, enter the value you want to assign to the option. You must specify a value for simple options. For compound options, you must specify a value for at least one of the suboptions, but you can choose to leave some of them blank.
Step 7 Click OK to save the new option.
If the information in all of the fields is valid, the page redisplays with the new option added.
If any of the information is invalid, a message appears asking you to correct the invalid information. Correct the information and click OK.
You can use the Edit Default Options page (see Figure 6-5) to clone an option. Cloning an option copies and adds an exact copy of a compound option and all of its suboptions to the default option set. You can clone only multi-instance compound options.
To clone a multi-instance compound option, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.
Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Default.
Step 4 On the Edit Default Option Set page, do one of the following:
Step 5 On the Edit Default Options page, locate the compound option you want to clone and click Clone for that option.
Step 6 Modify the cloned option as desired by doing the following. You must modify the cloned option to distinguish it from the original option. The TFTP server cannot use the cloned option until you modify it.
Step 7 To add the suppress rule to a multi-instance option, select the discrete option number from the Suppress Option pull-down list and click Suppress Option. The page redisplays, showing the new suppress rule.
Step 8 Click OK to save the cloned option and its suboptions.
If the information in all of the fields is valid, the page redisplays with the cloned option listed.
If any of the information is invalid, a message appears asking you to correct the invalid information. Correct the information and click OK.
You can use the Edit Default Options page (see Figure 6-5) to modify an option in the default option set.
To modify an option assigned in the default option set, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.
Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Default.
Step 4 On the Edit Default Option Set page, do one of the following:
Step 5 On the Edit Default Options page, locate the option number you want to modify and modify the option as desired by doing the following:
Step 6 To add the suppress rule to a multi-instance option, select the discrete option number from the Suppress Option pull-down list and click Suppress Option. The page redisplays, showing the new suppress rule.
Step 7 Click OK to save the changes you made to the fields on this page.
If the information in all of the fields is valid, the page redisplays with the changes visible.
If any of the information is invalid, a message appears asking you to correct the invalid information. Correct the information and click OK.
You can use the Edit Default Options page (see Figure 6-5) to remove an option from the default option set.
To remove an option, do the following:
Step 1 Log in to Modem Registrar.
Step 2 On the Main Menu page, click Option Sets.
Step 3 On the Configure Option Sets page, click Default.
Step 4 On the Edit Default Option Set page, do one of the following:
Step 5 On the Edit Default Options page, locate the option you want to remove and click Delete for that option. A confirmation message appears asking you if you want to remove the option. Click Yes or No as appropriate.
Click Yes to remove the option. If it is a compound option, all of its suboptions are also removed.
Click No to leave the option unchanged.
Step 6 On the Edit Default Options page, click OK to save the change you made on this page.
