Preparing to Install Cisco Subscriber Registration Center

Preparing to Install Cisco Subscriber Registration Center

Cisco Subscriber Registration Center (CSRC) is an integrated suite of software modules that allows large-scale configuration and management of broadband modems. Leveraging the extensibility of Cisco Network Registrar, CSRC enables and administers subscriber self-registration. The folder-enabled architecture of CSRC allows it to integrate with LDAP version 3 directory servers.

CSRC Network Integration

CSRC consists of the following software modules:

This guide does not discuss the installation and use of AR. For information about AR, see the AR documentation included in the CSRC installation kit.

For more information about the other software modules, see the following documentation:

Figure 1-1 shows how CSRC integrates with the other components in your cable network.

Hardware Requirements

CSRC requires the following hardware components:

Table 1-1 lists the disk space requirements for CSRC.

Note The disk requirement for the LDAP directory server increases as the directory database increases in size.

Software Requirements

CSRC requires the use of LDAP version 3 compatible directory servers. Currently, Cisco has verified Netscape Directory Server (NDS) version 4.11. Cisco does not provide this software package. You must purchase a copy of Netscape Directory Server from Netscape.

Table 1-1 lists the software packages that CSRC requires. Cisco provides the packages for which Yes is indicated in the Provided column.

CSRC Installation Kit

The CSRC installation kit consists of the following components:

Distribution Media

The distribution media for CSRC consists of the following set of CD-ROMs:

The CSRC CD-ROM is assigned the volume name csrc_1_0_2.

Note Access Registrar is required only for Telco return environments. For information on installing AR, see the AR documentation provided in the CSRC documentation kit.

Distribution Media Content

Table 1-3 lists the files and directories contained beneath the root folder of the CSRC CD-ROMs:

The CSRC software packages for Solaris: CSCOcsrcd, CSCOcsrcw, CSCOcsrcn, and CSCOcsrcu. For more information, see the Cisco Subscriber Registration Center Installation Guide for Solaris.

CSRC\NT\

The CSRC software packages for Windows NT: LDAP data, CNR integration, Web user interface, CSRC utilities.

docs\

CSRC product documentation in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). This folder contains the installation guides you need to install CSRC, and the documentation for the User Registrar and Modem Registrar applications. It also contains an HTML file, called BugList.html, that provides information about CSRC bugs.

Note Cisco Network Registrar is available on the
CNR CD-ROM, included with the CSRC distribution media.

Electronic Distribution

The CSRC electronic distribution for Windows NT is a self-extracting file called csrc_1_0_2-nt.exe, where 1_0_2 is the version number of the product (for example, 1.0(2)). The Windows NT electronic version includes the following files and folders, also included in the CSRC folder layout:

Software License Keys

During the installation of Cisco Subscriber Registration Center (CSRC), Cisco Network Registrar (CNR), and Access Registrar (AR), the installer asks you to enter the appropriate license key. Each key is available in printed format in the installation kits.

If you obtain an electronic distribution of CSRC, you can also obtain an evaluation license key from the CSRC download site.

Note If Cisco is installing CSRC at your site, Cisco provides the required license keys.
