Glossary


AR

Access Registrar. AR provides RADIUS services to DOCSIS cable modems for deployment of high-speed data services in a one-way cable plant requiring telco-return for upstream data.

CNR


Cisco Network Registrar. A software product that provides IP addresses, configuration parameters, and DNS names to DOCSIS cable modems and PCs, based on network and service policies.

Configuration file


A file containing configuration parameters for the DOCSIS cable modem.

CSCOcsrcd


The CSRC component that provides CSRC LDAP schema and initial data.

CSCOcsrcn


The CSRC component that enables the Cisco Network Registrar's TFTP server to interoperate with CSRC and to dynamically generate DOCSIS configuration files.

CSCOcsrcu


The CSRC component that provides CSRC command line utilities.

CSCOcsrcw

The CSRC component that provides the Web-based user interface to CSRC.

CSRC


Cisco Subscriber Registration Center. An integrated solution for data-over-cable service providers to configure and manage broadband modems, and enable and administer subscriber self-registration and activation.

DHCP


Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (RFC 2131). DHCP clients obtain their IP address assignments and other configuration information from DHCP servers.

DOCSIS


Data-Over-Cable Systems Interface Specifications. Specifications written by leading North American cable operators, CableLabs, and their vendor representatives that provide a standard interface for cable modems.

LDAP

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol version 3 (RFC 2251). A protocol that enables access to a directory database.

MR


Modem Registrar. One of the suite of software products included in the Cisco Subscriber Registration Center (CSRC) product. MR is a policy-based cable modem management product that provides dynamic cable modem configuration.

NAS


Netscape Application Server.

NDS


Netscape Directory Server.

Response file


A file that contains the values for parameters required to install the CSRC packages. The installer uses the values in the response file instead of prompting for the information.

SSL


Secure Sockets Layer (version 3). A Netscape protocol that enables the exchange of certificates and the encryption of traffic between clients and servers.

TFTP


Trivial File Transfer Protocol version 2 (RFC 1350). TFTP clients obtain files from TFTP servers without the use of client authentication (for example, username and password).

uBR


Universal Broadband Router (also known as the Cisco 7246 or 7223 router), which is the Cisco router implementation of a DOCSIS CMTS.

UR


User Registrar. One of the suite of software products included in the Cisco Subscriber Registration Center (CSRC) product. UR enables cable network subscribers to self-provision account registration, and to activate their cable modem and PC over the cable network using a Web user interface. User Registrar activates subscriber devices with account-appropriate privileges through updates to an LDAP directory.
