Installing Required Software Packages

Installing Required Software Packages

This chapter provides information about installing the required software packages that CSRC needs before it can run. In some cases, the chapter does not provide step-by-step instructions about how to install these software packages, because the packages include their own documentation. In other cases, installation instructions are provided in an appendix in this guide.

Some installation information refers to parameter values you entered on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (Table 2-1).

What You Will Need for Required Software Installation

Table 3-1 lists the installation kits, utilities, and documentation you need to install the required software packages

.
Table 3-1: Required Software Packages
Software Package What You Need Documentation

Perl

Perl installation kit for Windows NT 4.0, included on the CSRC distribution media.

The README.txt file on the CSRC CD-ROM in the Perl\ directory.

Web server

Web server installation kit for Windows NT 4.0. The CSRC distribution media contains an installation kit for the Apache Web server.

The README.txt file on the CSRC CD-ROM in the Apache\ directory.

LDAP directory server

LDAP directory server software.

Note For information about what you will need for the Netscape Directory Server, see "Netscape Directory Server."

Contact vendor.

Netscape Application Server (NAS)

NAS installation kit for Windows NT 4.0. This includes a NAS key.

The NAS\nas211_sp7_beta1\docs\install.pdf file on the CSRC CD-ROM.

Step 1---Install Perl

Step 1 of the CSRC installation process is to install Perl version 5.00503 or higher in the C:\Program Files\CSRC\perl directory.

For information about installing Perl, see "Perl."

Step 2---Install Cisco Network Registrar

Step 2 of the CSRC installation process is to install Cisco Network Registrar (CNR) version 3.0(1)T or higher Technology (T) version.

The following sections describe the installation requirements for Cisco Network Registrar (CNR) and how to configure CNR for CSRC.

CSRC CNR Installation Requirements

All of the CSRC software packages require CNR version 3.0(1)T or higher Technology (T) version, except the LDAP data package. This package does not require CNR.

As you install CNR, be sure you do the following:

For more information about the CSRC software packages, see "Completing the CSRC Installation" section.

Using the CSRC Installation Worksheet for CNR

As you install CNR, be sure to indicate the following information on the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (Table 2-1):

What to Do if CNR is Already Installed

If you have already installed the CNR graphical user interface (GUI) component, check the version number of the installed software to ensure that it meets the CSRC requirement. To check the CNR version number, do the following:

Step 1 Using the Windows NT taskbar, open the CNR GUI with the following menu selection sequence:

    Start>Programs>Network Registrar 3.0>Network Registrar 3.0

Step 2 In the Help menu, select the About Network Registrar option. The CNR version displays in the window that appears.

Note Be sure you have CNR version 3.0(1)T or later. This is the Technology (T) version. If you do not have the correct version of CNR installed, you must install the correct version.

For information on how to install Cisco Network Registrar (CNR), see Getting Started with Network Registrar. You must install the server component of CNR on at least one host. Installing only the GUI component is not sufficient.

To find out the version of the CNR servers installed on a machine, do the following from a DOS window:

Step 1 Type this command:

    cd /d "C:\Program Files\Network Registrar\BIN"

Step 2 Type dns -v.

Output similar to the following is displayed:

What to Do After You Install CNR

After you install the proper version of CNR, you must configure at least one cluster and set the CNR license key for that cluster. If you do not do this before you begin installing the CSRC software packages, CSRC will not install successfully.

The license key is located on the back of the CNR distribution media. You must enter your license the first time you configure a cluster.

To set the license key and configure one cluster, do the following:

Step 1 Enter the following command to start the CNR GUI.

    Start>Programs>Network Registrar 3.0>Network Registrar 3.0

Step 2 From the Admin menu, select Clusters.

Step 3 In the Cluster dialog box, click Add Cluster.

Step 4 In the Add Cluster dialog box, enter the cluster name. The cluster name must be the name of the host on which the database runs. This is usually the name of the DNS server.

Step 5 Select the Connect to this cluster checkbox. You must connect to the cluster to set the license key.

Step 6 Click OK.

Step 7 In the Login for Cluster dialog box for that cluster, enter the username and password.

Step 8 Click OK.

Step 9 From the License dialog box, click New Key.

Step 10 From the Cluster Properties dialog box, select Edit License Key.

Step 11 Enter the 16-digit license.

Step 12 Click OK.

For more information, see Getting Started with Network Registrar.

Step 3---Install a Web Server

Step 3 of the CSRC installation process is to install a Web server. CSRC operates with most Web servers. If you do not have a Web server currently installed, you must install one. This manual provides the installation requirements and the installation procedures for installing the Apache Web server that is distributed on the CSRC distribution media, or the Netscape Enterprise Web server, available from Netscape.

For information on installing the Apache Web server, see "Apache Web Server."

Note For Apache, you must modify the ErrorDocument parameter in the httpd.conf file. For more information, see the "Editing the httpd.conf File" section.

For information on installing the Netscape Enterprise Web server, see "Netscape Enterprise Server."

Step 4---Install an LDAP Directory Server

Step 4 of the CSRC installation process is to install an LDAP version 3 compliant server. One such server is the Netscape Directory Server (NDS).

For information about installing NDS, see "Netscape Directory Server."

Step 5---Install Netscape Application Server

Step 5 of the CSRC installation process is to install the Netscape Application Server (NAS) version 2.1. The CSRC distribution media contains pre-compiled NAS binary files for Windows NT.

The following sections describe the installation requirements and provides an example of a NAS installation.

CSRC NAS Installation Requirements

The Web user interface software package provides the Web-based user interface to CSRC. You must install NAS on the same host as you install the Web user interface. You must also install Perl, the CNR user interface, and the Web server on this host.

Using the CSRC Installation Worksheet for NAS

During installation, the Netscape Application Server installer program asks for the Netscape Application Server installation root directory. See box 17 in the "CSRC Installation Worksheet" (Table 2-1).

For other questions, read the installation instructions in the \NAS\nas211_sp7_beta1\docs\install.pdf file on the CSRC CD-ROM.

Example NAS Installation

Step 1 Insert the CSRC CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 2 Click Start on the Windows NT taskbar, then click Run.

Step 3 Click Browse and navigate to the CD-ROM drive (for example, D:\).

Step 4 Under the \NAS\nas211_sp7_beta1\nt directory, double-click setup.exe and click OK.

Step 5 Follow the installation program instructions.

During NAS installation, specify the following information at the installer's prompt (otherwise accept the default values):

Note If type of Web server was set to other, then the Web server type is set to none and the Web server instance appears blank in the resulting dialog box. This is normal.

What to Do After You Install NAS

Verify that NAS is installed by executing one of the sample applications. For more information, see the NAS documentation.
