Preparing to Install Cisco Subscriber Registration Center

Cisco Subscriber Registration Center (CSRC) is a suite of software products used to configure and manage broadband modems, and to enable and administer subscriber self-registration. The directory-enabled architecture of CSRC allows it to integrate with Netscape LDAP version 3 servers.

CSRC Network Integration

CSRC consists of the following software modules:

Cisco Network Registrar (CNR)
User Registrar (UR)
Modem Registrar (MR)
Cisco Access Registrar (CAR)

Figure 1-1 shows how CSRC integrates with the other components in your cable network.

Hardware Requirements

CSRC version 1.0 requires the following hardware components:

Microsoft Windows NT workstation server with Windows NT 4.0 SP 3
CD-ROM drive (unless installed from electronic distribution)

Table 1-1 lists the disk space requirements for CSRC.

You may have a Web server and/or Perl already installed. CSRC operates with most Web servers, such as Apache and Netscape Enterprise Server. The CSRC distribution media contains an installation kit for Apache. You can choose to purchase and install another Web server.

Note The disk requirement for the LDAP directory server increases as the directory database increases in size.

Software Requirements

CSRC requires the use of LDAP version 3 compatible directory servers. Currently, Cisco has verified Netscape Directory Server (NDS) version 4.0 and 4.1. Cisco does not provide this software package. You must purchase a copy of Netscape Directory Server version 4.0 or 4.1 from Netscape.

Table 1-1 lists the software packages that CSRC version 1.0 requires. If Yes is indicated in the Provided column, Cisco provides CD-ROMs containing the package.

Note Although Cisco provides Perl and Apache Web server software for your convenience, Cisco does not support this software.

CSRC Installation Kit

The CSRC installation kit consists of the following components:

CSRC distribution media (see the "Distribution Media Content" section)
Product key for the Netscape Application Server (NAS)
Documentation kit containing installation and user guides for all CSRC software products

Distribution Media

The distribution media for CSRC version 1.0 consists of the following set of CD-ROMs:

The CSRC CD-ROM is assigned the volume name csrc_1_0.

Note Cisco Access Registrar is required only for Telco return environments. For information on installing CAR, see the CAR documentation provided in the CSRC documentation kit.
