Note As the range of Cisco devices that support COPS widens, the number of devices supported by QPM-COPS will increase. We suggest that you periodically check the QPM-COPS Planner page at the following URL to see if new support is available:
http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/netmgmt/nr/qos-cops.html

QPM-COPS Known Problems

Known problems are unexpected behaviors or defects in QPM-COPS software releases. They are graded according to severity level. These release notes contain information for severity levels 1 and 2 only.

You can search for known problems on the Cisco bug tracking system tool, called Bug Navigator II. To access Bug Navigator II, do one of the following:

Table 2: QPM-COPS Known Problems
Bug ID Summary Workaround

CSCdr40536

In certain situations, the PDP service crashes when there are over 100 devices on a single PDP.

Only connect up to 75 devices to a single PDP.

CSCdr16392

When a device requests policies from a PDP before a database has been deployed to the PDP, it might cause unexpected device behavior under certain conditions. See the information about DDTS bug CSCdr52849 in Table 3.

Deploy at least one job before assigning devices to the PDP. The database you deploy does not need to contain roles but it must have a global service template.

Note We suggest that you periodically check the QPM-COPS Planner page at the following URL for product updates and patches:
http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/netmgmt/nr/qos-cops.html

Device Limitations

At the time of release of this version of QPM-COPS, there are some limitations in devices supported by QPM-COPS that affect some features in this release of QPM-COPS.

Table 3: QPM-COPS Device Limitations
Device Limitation Explanation

Cat5K

If a DSCP range ACL is configured with QPM-COPS for a Cat5K, the policy will not be applied.
(DDTS bug---CSCdr23429)

It is recommended not to deploy policies on a Cat5K that specify a DSCP range in the filter definition.

Cat5K/6K

For both 5K and 6K platforms, there is no support for setting the lower WRED threshold value. No error/warning message is provided.
(DDTS bug---CSCdr28819)

The non-zero min. RED percentage values, used in some Cisco service templates are ignored.

Cat6K

When no database is downloaded to the PDP before a device asks for policies, the device reboots when the "show cops pib" command is entered in CLI.
(DDTS bug---CSCdr52849)

To prevent unexpected device behavior, deploy at least one job before assigning devices to the PDP. The database you deploy does not need to contain roles but it must have a global service template.

Cat5K

Role assignment for an interface is applied to all interfaces.

When you assign a role combination to an interface, it is applied to all interfaces in the device. You cannot assign another role combination to a different interface, unless you delete the first role combination.

Cat6K

Role assignment for an interface is applied to all interfaces in the same ASIC.

When you assign a role combination to an interface, it is applied to all interfaces in the same ASIC. If you assign another role combination to a different interface in the ASIC, the first role combination is deleted from all interfaces in the ASIC, and the new role combination is applied to all those interfaces.

Documentation Updates

This section contains the following information that is not included in the user manual or online help:

Multiple User Capabilities

QPM-COPS allows multiple users to read and view QoS database data via their browsers. However, since QPM-COPS is not a multi-user application, only one user at a time can update or change the current QoS database. For more information, see the chapter, Working with QoS Databases in the user manual.

Installation Requirements

QPM-COPS supports US English or Japanese versions of Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0. In order to launch QPM-COPS in the Japanese version of NT, use the workaround described in "Using QPM-COPS in a Japanese Environment."

Using QPM-COPS in a Japanese Environment

In order to launch QPM-COPS in the Japanese version of NT, you need to adjust the classpath to point to the correct jar file.

    1. In a text editor, open the jsm.properties file, which is located under
    CSCOpx\lib\jrun\jsm-cw2000\properties.

    2. Add the section in bold typeface, to the following line in the file:

java.args=-Djava.compiler=NONE -Xmx64m -Xbootclasspath:D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx\\www\\classpath\\vbjorb.jar;D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx\\www\\classpath\\vbjapp.jar;D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx;D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx\\lib\\jre2\\lib\\rt.jar;
D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx\\lib\\jre2\\lib\\i18n.jar -cp ..\\lib\\xt.jar;..\\lib\\jsp.jar;..\\lib\\jrun.jar;..\\lib\\servlet.jar;D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx\\lib\\classpath;D:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx\\www\\classpath
This adds i18n.jar in the -Xbootclasspath argument of the java.compiler variable.

You can now launch CiscoWorks2000 and work with QPM-COPS.

Additional Troubleshooting Information

This section describes troubleshooting information that was not included in the user manual.

Problem   When trying to access an application page the following message appears:
Class Format Exception: Bad Magic Number

Explanation   The QPM-COPS interface cannot be accessed.

Recommended Action   Delete all files in all the subdirectories under the following path:
C:\Program Files\CSCOpx\lib\jrun\jsm-cw2000\services\jse\ servlets\jsp\qpm
You can now reload the required application page.

Problem   Deployment hangs when deploying a database with CNR tags.

Explanation   The connection to the CNR server has failed for some reason.

Recommended Action   Restart the Cisco BE Server in the Services window accessed from the Control Panel. In general, if you work with directories, verify that they are up and logged on.

Problem   When trying to access the Policy Editor the following error message is displayed: Invalid Job ID : <JobID>.qpmj

Explanation   This error occurs when the last job opened in the Policy Editor was deleted.

Recommended Action   Go to the following URL:
http://<hostname>:1741/qpm/policy/db.jsp. The DB Load/Save page appears. Load an existing database, or create a new database and continue working with QPM-COPS.

Problem   Commit or rediscovery of a device fails

Explanation   One or more of the following SNMP settings is incorrect:
Community strings
Timeout
Number of retries

Recommended Action   Change the settings in the SNMP page, which you can access by clicking SNMP Settings in the Device Details page.

Problem   Role removed from an IOS interface in Device Configuration is not removed on the device.

Explanation   The role is removed only after the device reconnects to the PDP.

Recommended Action   Disconnect the device from the PDP and reconnect via Telnet using the following commands:
router#conf t
router(config)#no ip rsvp policy cops servers
router(config)#ip rsvp policy cops servers <PDP-Address>
router(config)#end
