This chapter provides you basic instructions on how to access and use all of the applications contained within the Cisco Element Management Framework (Cisco EMF) Event Manager. The Cisco EMF Event Manager requires Cisco EMF to be installed. Cisco EMF runs on the Common Desktop Environment (CDE). You should be familiar with this working environment. Using the Event Thresholder through the Command Line Interface (CLI) requires you to have a good understanding of UNIX, and it is assumed you are working in a C shell environment.
This section describes the documentation conventions used throughout this manual.
Throughout this manual, key combinations used for keyboard shortcuts are displayed as Ctrl + <required key>. Press the Ctrl (Control) key and the required command key simultaneously.
Throughout Cisco EMF Event Manager, you must select items from lists displayed in the various windows. The following sections describe the methods available to select individual items or multiple items.
Step 1 Select the relevant item.
Step 2 It becomes highlighted.

Step 1 Select the first item.
Step 2 The item becomes highlighted.
Step 3 Press the Shift button.
Step 4 Select the last item in the sequence.
Step 5 Release the Shift button.
Step 6 All items between the first and last item are highlighted.

Step 1 Select a relevant item in the list.
Step 2 The item will become highlighted.
Step 3 Place the cursor over the next item to be selected.
Step 4 Press Ctrl + the left mouse button.
Step 5 The item will become highlighted.
Step 6 Repeat step 3 until all the required items are highlighted.

Step 1 Place the cursor anywhere in the relevant window.
Step 2 Press the right mouse button.
Step 3 A pop-up menu is displayed.
Step 4 Drag the cursor to the Select All option.
Step 5 All items in the list become highlighted.

Step 1 Place the cursor anywhere in the relevant window.
Step 2 Press the right mouse button.
Step 3 A pop-up menu is displayed.
Step 4 Drag the cursor to the Deselect option.
Step 5 All items in the list are deselected.
Throughout Cisco EMF Event Manager, you can access popup menus from map objects, events listed in the Event Browser, and objects listed in any containment tree. The pop up menus allow you to access functionality relevant to the selected element.
Step 1 Open the appropriate window to display the required element.
Step 2 Place the cursor over the element.
Step 3 Press the right mouse button.
Step 4 A pop up menu is displayed. This menu details all of the options that can be accessed from the selected element.
Step 5 Drag the cursor to the required menu option, then release the right mouse button.
Step 6 The selected application window is displayed.
The Tooltips option displays a brief description of the tool or icon that the cursor is left over. Tooltips is enabled as default.
Step 1 From the Options menu, select the Enable Tooltips option.
Step 2 The square next to Enable Tooltips option disappears.
Step 3 Tooltips is disabled.
Step 1 From the Options menu, select the Enable Tooltips option.
Step 2 A square appears next to Enable Tooltips.
Step 3 Place the cursor over an object.
Step 4 A description of the object is displayed.

The Toolbar contains icon buttons which invoke various tools and menu options. The icons displayed in the Toolbar vary depending on which window is being viewed. You can disable the Toolbar so that it is not displayed on screen.
Step 1 From the Options menu, select the Show Toolbar option.
Step 2 The square next to Show Toolbar on the Options menu disappears.
Step 3 A Toolbar is not displayed in the current window.
Step 1 From the Options menu, select the Show Toolbar option.
Step 2 The square next to Show Toolbar on the Options menu appears.
Step 3 A Toolbar is displayed in the current window.

Step 1 From the File menu, select the Print option, or press Ctrl + P, or select the Print icon
from the Toolbar.
Step 2 The displayed view is printed.
Step 1 From the File menu, select the Close option, or press Ctrl + W, or select the Close icon
from the Toolbar.
