Managing Chassis and Module Inventory

Managing Chassis and Module Inventory

This chapter describes how to access inventory details about the Cisco 6015 DSLAM chassis and each of the cards within the chassis. You can retrieve inventory information within the Map Viewer window by right-clicking either the chassis object or any card, such as an NI-2 card or a DMT line card.

This chapter includes the following sections:

Viewing the Chassis Inventory

You can open the Chassis Inventory window to view inventory information for a selected chassis. The Chassis Inventory window has two tabs, the General tab and the Asset Tracking tab. The General tab provides general details about the specific chassis, and the Asset Tracking tab provides various identification numbers relevant to the specific chassis.

To view the Chassis Inventory window, complete the following steps:


Step 1   From the Map Viewer window, within the CDM Manager view, right-click a chassis to access the object menu.

Step 2   Choose Cisco DSL Manager > Physical > Chassis > Inventory.

The Chassis Inventory window opens, which is shown in Figure 9-1.

Step 3   Select a chassis from the list on the left (the first chassis object is selected by default.)


Note   The General and Asset Tracking tabs are read-only.


Viewing the Chassis Inventory Window General Tab

The General tab contains the following five areas:

Field Description

Chassis ID

Displays the ID of the selected chassis.

Number of Slots

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Backplane Type

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Type

Displays the chassis type.

Environmental Monitor Type

Not applicable this release of CDM.

Host Name

Displays the host name for the selected chassis.

Boot Image Host

Displays the IP address of the host, which supplies the software currently running.

Description

Displays the system hardware type, software operating system, and networking software of the selected chassis.

ROM ID

Displays the system boot trap description and version identifier.

Domain Name

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Services

Displays the set of services potentially offered by the selected chassis.

IOS

Displays the version of the Cisco IOS commands in the selected chassis.

Software

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Hardware

Displays the version of the selected chassis.

Firmware

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

PCMCIA Slot Details

The PCMCIA Details area is not applicable for CDM.

Power Supply Details

The Power Supply Details area is not applicable for CDM.

The Chassis Inventory Window Asset Tracking Tab

The Chassis Inventory Window Asset Tracking tab, which is shown in Figure 9-2, displays information about the hardware.

Field Description

Assembly Version

Displays the number assigned by the manufacturer that uniquely identifies the component.

Assembly Number

Displays the manufacturing assembly number, which is the hardware identification.

Software ID

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Firmware ID

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Common Language Equipment ID

Not applicable for this release of CDM.

Orderable Part Number

Represents the number used to reorder this component (part number).

Original Equipment Manufacturer

Displays the original equipment manufacturer of the chassis.

Viewing the Module Inventory Window

The Module Inventory window has two tabs, General and Asset Tracking. The General tab provides general details about the specific card, and the Asset Tracking tab provides various identification numbers relevant to the specific card.

To view the Module Inventory window, complete the following steps:


Step 1   From the Map Viewer window, within the CDM Manager view, right-click a card such as a line card or NI-2 card) to access the object menu.

Step 2   Choose Cisco DSL Manager > Physical > Module > Inventory.

The Module Inventory window opens, which is shown in Figure 9-3.

Step 3   From the list boxes on the left, select the relevant chassis and card.

The status information for the selected card appears on the right.


Note   The General and Asset Tracking tabs are read-only.


Viewing the Module Inventory Window General Tab

The General tab contains four areas:

Field Description

Type

Displays the type of selected card.

Description

Displays a description of the selected card.

Serial Number

Displays the serial number for the selected card.

Host Name

Displays the host name for the selected card.

Boot Image Host

Displays the IP address of the host, which supplies the software currently running.

Description

Displays the system hardware type, software operating system, and networking software of the selected card.

ROM ID

Displays the system boot trap description and version identifier.

Domain Name

Displays the domain portion of the domain name for the host. (Field not applicable for CDM.)

Services

Displays the services available for the selected card.

IOS

Displays the version of the Cisco IOS commands in the selected card.

Software

Displays the software version installed in the card. No information appears if data is not available.

Hardware

Displays the version of the selected card.

Firmware

Displays the revision of firmware installed on the card.

Slot Number

Displays the current slot number location of the selected card within the chassis.

Max. Supported Ports

Displays the maximum number of ports supported by the selected card.

Sub Slot Number

Displays the sub slot number of the selected card. (Field not applicable for CDM.)

Number of Working Ports

Displays the number of currently operational ports on the selected card. (Field not applicable for CDM.)

Viewing the Module Inventory Window Asset Tracking Tab

The Asset Tracking tab, which is shown in Figure 9-4, contains one area, Asset Tracking.

Field Description

Assembly Version

Displays the number assigned by the manufacturer that uniquely identifies the component.

Assembly Number

Displays the software installed on this card. The value to be entered must be a string.

Firmware ID

Displays the revision of firmware installed on this card.

Common Language Equipment ID

Represents the CLEI code for the card.

Displays the original equipment manufacturer of the card.
