This manual discusses overview and usage information for the Network Analysis Toolkit (NATkit), a GUI-based network troubleshooting tool that monitors customer networks. This manual also describes how NATkit interfaces with Resource Manager Essentials (RME).
The following sections describe who should read this manual and how it is organized.
This manual is intended for intermediate to experienced network administrators and network test engineers that are familiar with internetworking concepts and the network topology and protocols with which the devices in their network must operate. This manual assumes a working knowledge of UNIX and Microsoft Window environments.
This document is divided into nine chapters. The first two provide an overview of both RME and NATkit and how they work together. The remaining chapters discuss the various components of both, including device discovery, inventory collection and monitoring, configuration of a client system, and the Tasks, NATkit Utilities, and Admin drawers that contain all of these components.
Table 1-1 shows how the chapters in this manual are broken down:
Chapter 1 | Resource Manager Essentials Overview | Provides a basic overview of RME, and discusses adminstrator privileges, basic features, and using the navigation tree. |
|---|---|---|
Chapter 2 | Network Analysis Toolkit Overview | Describes the features and components of NATkit and how they work with RME. |
Chapter 3 | Configuring Your Client System | Explains how to configure a client system to be used with RME. |
Chapter 4 | Adding/Importing Inventory Data | Describes how to add devices to your network inventory. |
Chapter 5 | Using Device Discovery
| Explains how the device discovery process works, and how a discovered device is automatically exported to the inventory application. |
Chapter 6 | Scheduling Inventory | Explains how to use the device views added earlier to generate reports for monitoring network inventory activity. |
Chapter 7 | The Tasks Drawer | Describes all of the tools and applications available in the Tasks drawer. |
Chapter 8 | The NATkit Utilities Drawer | Describes all of the tools and applications available in the NATkit Utilities drawer. |
Chapter 9 | The Admin Drawer | Describes all of the tools and applications available in the Admin drawer. |
RME and NATkit ship with an online help system that provides an overview of each task type and any procedures for them, as well as additional information to many of the tasks and tools discussed in this user manual. Use the help system to get information about using the RME/NATkit interface and navigating within both. You can access the online help in two ways:
