The chapter details the hardware and software specifications of the NEMI and the SNMP protocols for the wavelength channel modules (WCMs).
The NEMI consists of the following:
The NEMI software consists of the following:
Reprogramming of the Flash memory is available through an Ethernet connection or serial port connection. See the "Transferring a System Update" section.
For dial-in and dial-out use, you have to set up an external modem using AT (Attention) commands on your modem. The settings described in Table 8-1 affect modem performance when calls start and end.
| Command | Description |
E0 | Command echo OFF |
Q | Result codes are reported |
V1 | Verbose ON |
S0=1 | Answer on first ring |
&C1 | DCD is on after connect only |
&S0 | DSR is always on |
| DTR on/off resets modem (depends on manufacturer) |
The modem should be connected by a cable that can transmit all the signals listed in Table 8-2 to the NEMI DB9 serial connector.
| Signal | Description | Pin |
|---|---|---|
RxD | Receive data | 2 |
TxD | Transmit data | 3 |
DTR | Data terminal ready | 4 |
GND | Signal ground | 5 |
DSR | Data set ready | 6 |
RTS | Request To Send | 7 |
CTS | Clear To Send | 8 |
RI | Ring indicator | 9 |
When a WCM is installed, the data marked "Automatic Read" (Table 8-3 and Table 8-4) is automatically supplied to the NEMI.
| Feature | SNMP Management |
|---|---|
Serial no. | Automatic Read |
Channel location | Automatic Read |
Clock (yes/no) | Automatic Read |
Cooled laser (yes/no) | Automatic Read |
Power supply available (yes/no) | Automatic Read |
Fan available (yes/no) | Automatic Read |
| Feature | SNMP Management |
|---|---|
Power supply failure (yes/no) | Automatic Read |
Fan failure (yes/no) | Automatic Read |
Environmental temperature (of converter card) | Automatic Read |
Laser temperature (stabilized laser only) | Automatic Read |
Laser current (stabilized laser only) | Automatic Read |
Hardware error | Automatic Read |
Configuration data for the WCM receivers and transmitters can be manually read (Table 8-5). Table 8-6 shows the RSM status.
| Receiver or Transmitter | Feature | SNMP Management |
|---|---|---|
Local receiver | Loss of signal | Read |
Remote receiver | Status of laser (on/off) | Read |
Local transmitter | Loss of signal | Read |
Remote transmitter | Status of laser (on/off) | Read |
Loop status | Local/remote/both/none | Read |
| Feature | SNMP Management |
|---|---|
Status (line A/lineB/lock) | Read |
