This document contains the following sections:

Preface Updates

On page v, in the "Document Objectives" section, add the following bullet:

On page viii, in the "If You Need More Information" section, add the following bullet:

For hardware installation and maintenance information, refer to the following publications:

Also, replace the last bullet list with the following:

Chapter 1 Updates

On page 1-2, in the "Port Adapter Overview" section, add the following bullet:

Also, replace the note at the bottom of the page with the following:

Note The Catalyst RSM/VIP2, the Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module, and the VIP2 support online insertion and removal (OIR), but individual port adapters do not. To replace port adapters you must first remove the The Catalyst RSM/VIP2, the Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module, or the VIP2 from the chassis and then replace port adapters as required.

The Cisco 7200 series and the Cisco uBR7246 routers support the OIR of all port adapter types.

On page 1-3, in the "LEDs" section, replace the first two bullets with the following:

Chapter 2 Updates

On page 2-1, in the "List of Parts and Tools" section, first bullet, add the following subbullet:

On page 2-2, in the "Software and Hardware Requirements" section, add the following to Table 2-1:

Platform Recommended Minimum Cisco IOS Release
Catalyst 6000 family switches with Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module

  • Catalyst 6000 family MSFC

  • Supervisor engine software

Cisco IOS Release 12.1(1)E or later

Catalyst 6000 family supervisor engine software release 5.4(1)CSX or later

Chapter 7 Updates

On page 7-3, add the following to example 2:

For the Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module:

Router(config)# interface hssi 7/1/0
Router(config-int)# hssi internal-clock
Router(config-int)# ^z

On page 7-4, in the "Identifying Chassis Slot, Port Adapter Slot, and HSSI Interface Port Numbers" section, replace the first paragraph with the following:

The following sections describes how to identify the chassis slot, port adapter slot, and HSSI port numbers for the Cisco 7200 series, Cisco uBR7200 series routers, the VIP2, the Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module, and the Catalyst RSM/VIP2.

On page 7-6, add the following subsection:

Catalyst 6000 Family FlexWAN Module Ports

In the Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module, the address is composed of a three-part number in the format module-number/port-adapter-bay/interface-port, as follows:

Interface ports on the Catalyst FlexWAN module maintain the same address regardless of whether other interface processors are installed or removed. However, when you move a Catalyst FlexWAN module to a different slot, the first number in the address changes to reflect the new module slot number.

You can also identify interface ports by physically checking the mod_num/bay/port location or by using show commands to display information about a specific interface.

Note The FlexWAN module physical port address uses a zero- (0-) based port address, which differs from the conventional Catalyst 6000 family one- (1-) based port address.

On page 7-7, in the "Configuring Interfaces" section, add the following example to Step 2:

For the Catalyst FlexWAN module, at the prompt specify the first interface to configure by entering the subcommand interface, followed by the type (hssi) and mod-num/bay/port. The example that follows is for the first interface of the first port adapter on a Catalyst FlexWAN module in interface processor slot 7:

Router(config)# interface hssi 7/0/0

On page 7-9, Step 2, replace the first paragraph with the following:

Step 2 For Cisco 7100 series, Cisco 7200 series, and Cisco uBR7200 series routers, and the Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module, display all the current port adapters and their interfaces with the show controllers command. Verify that the new PA-2H appears in the correct slot.

In Step 3, add the following:

For the Catalyst FlexWAN module, specify one of the new interfaces with the show interfaces type mod-num/bay/port command and verify that the first line of the display specifies the interface with the correct slot number. Also verify that the interface and line protocol are in the correct state: up or down.

On page 8-10, add the following section:

Catalyst 6000 Family FlexWAN Module show Commands

Following is an example of the show interfaces command, which displays status information (including the physical slot and interface address) for the interfaces you specify. In this example, the interface is on a port adapter in port adapter bay 0 of a Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module in module slot 7; also most of the status information for the interface is omitted. (Interfaces are administratively shut down until you enable them.)

    Router# show interfaces hssi 7/0/0
Hssi7/0/0 is administratively up, line protocol is up
      Hardware is HSSI
MTU 4470 bytes, BW 45045 Kbit, DLY 200 usec,
         reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation HDLC, crc 16, loopback not set
      Keepalive not set
Last input never, output never, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
      Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue 0/40, 0 drops; input queue 0/75, 0 drops
      5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
      5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer
         Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
                  0 parity
         0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort
         0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 applique, 0 interface resets
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
         0 carrier transitions
         LC=down  CA=down  TM=down LB=down TA=down LA=down

Use the show version command to display the configuration of the system hardware, the number of each interface type installed, the Cisco IOS software version, the names and sources of configuration files, and the boot images.

Following is an example of the show version command for a Catalyst 6000 family FlexWAN module:

    Router# show version
