Repacking a Switch

This appendix provides repacking and shipping instructions in the event you need to return your Catalyst 5000 series switch to the factory:

Catalyst 5 002

In the event you need to return or move the Catalyst 5002, follow these steps to repack the switch using the original packaging material:

Step 1 Slide the padding foam over the Catalyst 5002 (see Figure D-1).

Step 2 Place the accessory kit on the top packing material.

Step 3 Place the outside carton over the entire package.

Step 4 Fold the outside carton down over the top of the accessory boxes and seal with packing tape.

Catalyst 5 505 and Catalyst 5000

If you need to return or move the Catalyst 5505 or Catalyst 5000, follow these steps to repack the switch using the original packaging material:

Step 1 Set the switch in the bottom pallet (see Figure D-2).

Step 2 Place the top packing material over the top of the switch.

Step 3 Place both accessory boxes on the top packing material.

Step 4 Place the shipping carton so the open end is on one side and then slide the pallet into the carton horizontally.

Step 5 Seal the carton with packing tape.

Cataly st 5500

If you need to return or move the Catalyst 5500, follow these steps to repack the switch using the original packaging material:

Step 1 Set the Catalyst 5500 in the bottom pallet (see Figure D-3).

Step 2 Place the top-packing material over the top of the Catalyst 5500.

Step 3 Place the rack-mount kit on the top-packing material.

Step 4 Place the power supply and accessory box on the top-packing material.

Step 5 Place the outside carton over the entire package.

Step 6 Fold the outside carton down over the top of the accessory boxes and seal with packing tape.

Step 7 Wrap two packing straps tightly around the top and bottom of the package to hold the outside carton and the bottom pallet together (see Figure D-4).

Note Do not use tape to hold the outside carton to the bottom pallet. Packing straps must be added to hold the entire package together and to add strength to the package.
