Cisco IOS Release 11.3, 11.3 NA, 11.3 T, and 11.3 WA4 End of Sales and End of Engineering

End of Engineering (EOE) means there are no more regularly scheduled maintenance releases. The following maintenance releases scheduled on the EOE date are only available through CCO and Field Service Operations, and not through manufacturing:

• Cisco IOS Releases 11.3 WA4 are scheduled to reach End of Sales (EOS) status with maintenance Releases 11.3(11)WA4(14b).

• Releases 11.3 WA4 are scheduled to reach EOE with Releases 11.3(11)WA4(14b).

EOS and EOE releases are subject to change. For the most up-to-date information on the status of EOS or EOE, see End of Sales and End of Engineering for Cisco  IOS Software Releases  product bulletins on CCO.

Hardware Supported in Release 11.3WA4

Release 11.3WA4 supports these hardware platforms:

• Catalyst 5000 series RSM

• Catalyst 5000 series ATM OC-12 modules (WS-X5161 and WS-X5162) or ATM OC-3 modules (WS-X5167 and WS-X5168)

• Cisco 4500 and 4700 series routers

• Cisco 7200 and 7500 series routers

Software Upgrades

For information on upgrading to a new software release, refer to the Cisco IOS Software Release Upgrade Paths and Packaging Simplification product bulletin #703 located on CCO. For more information, refer to the "Cisco Connection Online" section.

To access the bulletin using a web browser, perform these steps:

Step 1 Go to http://www.cisco.com/.

Step 2 Click Products and Ordering.

Step 3 Click Product Bulletins (near the bottom of the page).

Step 4 Scroll down the page to the Software section.

Step 5 Click on the product bulletin.

To determine the version of Cisco IOS software currently running on your platform, log onto your system and enter the show version EXEC command. The following is sample output from the show version command. The version number is indicated on the second line as shown in this example:

Release 11.3(3a)WA4(5) supports Multiprotocol over ATM (MPOA) on these hardware platforms running release 11.3(3a)WA4(5) or later:

• Catalyst 5000 series RSM

• Catalyst 5000 series ATM OC-12 modules (WS-X5161 and WS-X5162) or ATM OC-3 modules (WS-X5167 and WS-X5168)

• Cisco 4500 and 4700 series routers

• Cisco 7200 and 7500 series routers

New Features in Release 11.3(2)WA4(4)

Release 11.3(2)WA4(4) supports Multilayer Switching (MLS) on these Cisco router platforms:

• Catalyst 5000 series RSM

• Cisco 4500 and 4700 routers

• Cisco 7200 and 7500 routers

MLS consists of the following hardware:

• Catalyst 5000 series multilayer LAN switches

• Catalyst 5000 series RSM, which provides Cisco IOS-based multiprotocol routing and network services, or Cisco 4500, 4700, 7200, and 7500 series routers

• NetFlow Feature Card (NFFC), which is a modular feature-card upgrade for the Catalyst 5000 series Supervisor Engine III to provide Layer 3 switching

These are the open caveats for Release 11.3(5)WA4(8):

• CSCdk27849

In some situations the Catalyst 5000 series switch returns an incorrect IP address for the RSM, which prevents CiscoView from working properly.

Workaround. There is no workaround.

• CSCdk26488

Many dmac-synch errors can cause the RSM to stop receiving packets. Symptoms of the defect include not routing packets, as well as not being able to session into the RSM.

Workaround. After the defect occurs, the error condition will persist until you reset the C5IP backplane interface. Enter the test rsp stall command to reset this backplane interface and clear the error condition.

There is one open caveat for Release 11.3(4)WA4(7):

• CSCdk19752

If an IPX RIP request packet does not receive a reply from the router, it will stay in the input queue and not be released. Accumulated packets could cause the input queue to fill causing severe problems for all protocols.

The RIP request will not be answered if the following occurs:

• Requested network is not in the table, and no default route exists

• Requested network is denied by an output filter

• Requested network is split horizoned (the network was learned on the same interface that the request came in on)

Resolved Caveats--Release 11.3(11)WA4(14b)

These caveats are resolved in Release 11.3(11)WA4(14b):

• CSCdp26283

Under certain config sequences a 'no mls rp ip' issued on an interface can cause the router to crash. This caveat is now resolved.

• CSCdm67708

When enabling global mls rp ip on a Draco with a large configuration of HSRP pairs, the following message is displayed at the console at about every 15 seconds:

Resolved Caveats--Release 11.3(11)WA4(14a)

This caveat is resolved in Release 11.3(11)WA4(14a):

• CSCdm92277

An intermittent hardware problem on the RSM might cause the C5IP (the interface processor that connects to the Catalyst 5000 backplane) to fail. The following message appears:

%C5IP-0-MSG: slot0 %DB-0-FATAL_ERROR: Fatal error (code=34) status=0x0 cause=0x8020 epc=0x80029974
 

When this occurs, the RSM has to reload the C5IP microcode, which causes all VLAN interfaces to go down for 30 to 90 seconds. No packets are forwarded during this time.

This ddts enhances the error-processing routines in the C5IP, which allows it to recover from the error in most circumstances. The RSM will continue running with no interruption in service.

These caveats are resolved in Release 11.3(4)WA4(7):

• Under very heavy traffic, the LAN Emulation Client (LEC) occasionally goes down and up, with the Last Fail Reason always given as the Control Distribute Virtual Connection (VC) being released. This problem is fixed in Release 11.3(4)WA4(7). (CSCdk28312)

• The LEC does not listen to its own TOPOLOGY REQUEST messages. When a topology change occurs, the LEC does not use the short aging timer if it is on the designated bridge of the Emulated LAN (ELAN). This problem is fixed in Release 11.3(4)WA4(7). (CSCdk30340)

• When MPOA is configured on a Catalyst 5000 series ATM module or on a router port along with the Simple Server Redundancy Protocol (SSRP), shutting down the ATM interface can crash the router or Catalyst 5000 series ATM module. In addition, the ATM module or router can crash when the fiber connecting the ATM module to the switch is unplugged. This problem is fixed in Release 11.3(4)WA4(7). (CSCdk34153)

Port Adapter Caveats

This section lists caveats that apply to port adapters used in the Catalyst VIP2:

• If you are using the High-Speed Serial Interface (HSSI) single- or dual-port adapter in the Catalyst 5000, 5500, 5505, or 5509 switch, you must install the port adapter on the Catalyst Versatile Interface Processor 2 (VIP2-15 or VIP2-40) Revision 2 (board part number 73-3468-XX, where XX is the version number). Do not use the HSSI single- or dual-port adapter in the Catalyst 5000, 5505, or 5509 switch if you are installing it on a Catalyst VIP2 (either VIP2-15 or VIPS-40) module that is not Revision 2. If you fail to comply with this restriction, your system will shut down due to an overload of the power supply.

• You can only have two HSSI single- or dual-port adapters per chassis when installed on a VIP2-15 or VIP2-40 module Revision 1 and used in the Catalyst 5500 switch.

• The Channelized T1 port adapter (PA-2CT1/PRI) interfaces require shielded serial cables and connectors.

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners.
