Administrative Information

With the Administrative Information page, you can:

Configuring Administrative Information

Administrative information consists of the host name, IP address, and location of the switch. If you did not assign a host name to the command switch prior to launching Cluster Management software, it is assigned a default host name of "Switch." Any unnamed members are assigned the name "Switch" and a number (such as Switch-1) that indicates the order in which the device was added to the cluster. If you assigned a host name to a cluster member prior to launching Cluster Builder, that name is retained and displayed on the page. Previously assigned names can be changed by using this page.

To configure administrative information:

  1. In the Host Name field, enter a unique host name for the switch.
Note: On the command switch, the maximum length of the host name is 28 characters; on member switches, the maximum length is 31 characters. Do not use "-N" (where N is a number) as the last characters in host names for any switch.
  2. In the System Contact field, enter the name of the person or the organization who is responsible for this switch (up to 129 characters).
  3. In the System Location field, enter the location of the system (up to 129 characters).
  4. Click OK.
If you changed the host name on a switch, the new name is displayed on the switch in Cluster Manager.
  5. In Cluster Manager, click Save Config to save the configuration change to nonvolatile memory.
Note: Catalyst 1900 and 2820 switches automatically save configuration changes to nonvolatile memory, so this step is not required. Allow approximately one minute for changes to be saved to non-volatile memory before resetting or turning off the switch.

Displaying the System Uptime

The Administrative Information page automatically displays the uptime in the System Uptime field for the selected cluster member.
