Cluster Manager

Cluster Manager provides a wiring-closet view of the cluster, which includes the command switch and cluster members. By default, the command switch is located at the top of the cluster and is the only cluster member that has an IP address displayed. You can perform tasks on the port, device, and cluster level.

With this page, you can:

For more information about Cluster Manager, review how to access port and device pop-up menus and page button descriptions.

Monitoring the Port Status, Duplex, and Speed through the LEDs

The command switch receives the port status from cluster members, and Cluster Manager updates the image LEDs in real-time.

Note: You can change the Cluster Manager polling interval by clicking User Settings. For more information, click Help.

To display the port status, speed setting, and duplex mode of a switch in the cluster, click the MODE button on the switch image to highlight each of the three settings (STAT, SPD, and FDUP) in sequence. The port LEDs change color to reflect the setting. Click Legend to learn the meanings of the colors.

For more information, review the LED descriptions on the Cisco Visual Switch Manager Home page.

Configuring Port Status, Duplex, and Speed, and Port Fast Settings

You can configure port status, duplex mode, speed, and Port Fast settings on a single port or on multiple ports on the same switch.

To configure these settings:

  1. Select a port by clicking it with the left mouse button.
Note: To select multiple ports on the same switch, hold down the Ctrl key and with the left mouse button, click more than one port. Selected ports are highlighted.
  2. Click the right mouse button to display the pop-up menu.
  3. From the pop-up menu, select Port Configuration to display the Port Configuration page.
If you select a single port, the Port Configuration page displays the actual port settings, the settings to which you can configure the port, and VLAN information.
If you select multiple ports, this page does not display the actual settings or VLAN information.
For more information, click Help on the Port Configuration page.

Displaying VLAN Membership Information

You can display VLAN membership information for a single port and for a switch.

To display VLAN information for a single port:

  1. Select a port by clicking it with the left mouse button.
Note: You cannot select multiple ports and obtain VLAN information.
  2. Click the right mouse button to display the pop-up menu.
  3. From the pop-up menu, select Port Configuration to display the Port Configuration page.
  4. Review the settings in the VLAN Information section.
For more information, click Help on the Port Configuration page.

To display port VLAN information for a switch:

  1. Select a switch by clicking the right mouse button anywhere on the chassis (except on a port).
  2. From the pop-up menu, select VLAN Membership to display the VLAN Membership page.
This page displays the ID, name, and the status for all user defined VLANs. You can also display member ports of a specific VLAN and highlight the ports in Cluster Manager. For more information, click Help on the VLAN Membership page.

Configuring Device-Specific Information

You can configure device-specific information, such as the host name, system contact, and system location for each cluster member.

To configure this information:

  1. Select a switch by clicking the right mouse button anywhere on the chassis (except on a port).
  2. From the pop-up menu, select Device Configuration to display the Device Configuration page.
  3. Enter the information into the fields.
For more information, click Help on the Device Configuration page.

Changing User Settings

You can change settings and save this information on the command switch to be used when the application is launched again. These settings include changing the Cluster Builder and Cluster Manager polling interval, changing the link and device graph polling interval, disabling the Suggested Candidate start-up window, and changing the default view to launch.

To change these settings, click User Settings. For more information, click Help on the User Settings page.

Note: After changing the polling interval, you must click Reload in Netscape (Refresh in Internet Explorer) so the new settings take effect. When changing the graph polling interval, you must also close and reopen the graph window.

Displaying Device Reports and Graphs

To display device reports that include configuration, system, and port information or display the device bandwidth utilization graph:

  1. Select a switch by clicking the right mouse button anywhere on the chassis (except on a port).
  2. From the pop-up menu, select Device Report to display the Device Report page or Bandwidth Graph to display the utilization graph.
On the Device Report page, you can generate configuration, system, and port reports by selecting the option from the drop-down list. You can also display MAC addresses learned on a port. For more information, click Help on the Device Report page.
The Bandwidth Utilization graph displays an estimate of the traffic flowing through the switch. For more information, click Help on the graph.
Note: You can change the graph polling interval by clicking User Settings. For more information, click Help on the User Settings page.

Displaying Link Graphs

To display link graphs:

  1. Click the right mouse button on a port that is green (the status is up).
Note: You can only display link graphs for a single port. Do not select multiple ports.
  2. From the pop-up menu, select Link Graph to display a graph.
From the Link Utilization graph, you can display graphs for the total bytes transmitted and received on the link, total packets transmitted and received on the link, and total errors received on the link. For more information, click Help on the graph.
Note: You can change the graph polling interval by clicking User Settings. For more information, click Help on the User Settings page.

Configuring SNMP Parameters

To configure SNMP parameters for the entire cluster, including community strings and trap managers, click SNMP Manager. The SNMP Manager page launches. From this page, you can enable or disable the SNMP agent. You can also add and remove community strings and trap managers. For more information, click Help on the SNMP Manager page.
