This document describes a problem that is resolved in the FDDI module firmware version 1.24 for the Catalyst 2820 FDDI modules: WS-X2831, WS-X2841, and WS-X2842.
Under a heavy load, a Catalyst 2820 FDDI module might stop forwarding data from the FDDI ring back to the switch. The problem occurs in conditions of heavy traffic with some traffic flowing from the Ethernet ports on the Catalyst 2820 switch to the FDDI ring. If the traffic on the FDDI ring is sufficient to overwhelm the buffers on the FDDI module, it is possible that the FDDI module will stop forwarding all traffic.The problem occurs only when another FDDI station, such as a Catalyst 5000 switch, is also present on the ring. Because of the timing (bursting) parameters on the Catalyst 2820 FDDI modules, no problems occur if they are the only stations on the FDDI ring. (CSCdm82364)
