These upgrade instructions pertain to Cisco Security Manager when upgrading from SEC-MGR-1 to enable the management of additional or fewer Policy Enforcement Points, such as PIX Firewalls. The following upgrade packages are available: SEC-MGR-10 and SEC-MGR-100.
Using the Update Product License dialog box accessible on the Help menu in Cisco Policy Manager (the administrative interface for Cisco Security Manager), you can update the current license of your installed Cisco Security Manager product. This feature enables you to upgrade the number of Policy Enforcement Points (PEPs), such as the PIX Firewall, that you can use your Cisco Security Manager product to simultaneously manage and support.
A Cisco Security Manager license disk is packaged with your product, and during the installation process you are prompted for the license disk and the password for that license. This license is a permanent one; therefore, you should not have to update it unless you need to support a larger number of PEPs than provided by the current license.
Before you can upgrade your current license, you must have an operational Cisco Security Manager installation running on the required hardware and software as specified in the Cisco Security Manager Installation Guide document.
To upgrade the Cisco Security Manager license, perform the following task:
Step 1 To log on to Cisco Policy Manager, use an administrative account with the full-access privilege.
Result: Cisco Policy Manager loads.
Step 2 To access the Update Product License dialog box, point to Product Updates on the Help menu, and click License.
Result: The Update Product License dialog box appears.
Step 3 To specify the file name and path to the license key, type that file name and path in the License file name and path box, or click Browse to locate that disk and file.
If you stored the license file on your local machine, be sure to record the path to that file for future reference. Most likely, you received a new disk with the license key as a component in your upgrade package.
Step 4 To specify the password that corresponds to the license key file that you just specified, type that password in the Password box.
Be sure to record this password and store it in a safe place for future reference.
Step 5 To submit this information, click OK, or click Cancel to close the Update Product License dialog box without submitting the license update.
After you update your license, you can view the new license information by clicking the About Policy Manager command on the Help menu.
Because you have chosen to use Cisco Security Manager to manage more than one PEP, you may find it beneficial to install one or more secondary servers to distribute the load of your network monitoring and policy distribution functions. For more information on installing secondary servers, refer to the "Distributed Cisco Security Manager" section in Chapter 1 of the Cisco Security Manager Installation Guide document provided with your initial product.
The following documents directly support Cisco Security Manager:
In addition to these three documents, an extensive Help system is provided with Cisco Policy Manager, the administrative interface that configures Cisco Security Manager.
Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.
CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
You can access CCO in the following ways:
For a copy of CCO's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), contact cco-help@cisco.com. For additional information, contact cco-team@cisco.com.
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more current than printed documentation. To order additional copies of the Documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call customer service.
The CD-ROM package is available as a single package or as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco documentation on the World Wide Web at http://www.cisco.com, http://www-china.cisco.com, or http://www-europe.cisco.com.
If you are reading Cisco product documentation on the World Wide Web, you can submit comments electronically. Click Feedback on the toolbar and select Documentation. After you complete the form, click Submit to send it to Cisco. We appreciate your comments.
