Cisco Secure Policy Manager, formerly known as Cisco Security Manager, is a Microsoft Windows-based product that manages security policies for Cisco Secure PIX Firewalls and Cisco router/firewalls. The product also supports security policy management for intranet and extranet Virtual Private Network (VPN) environments (e.g., gateway-to-gateway) based on PIX Firewalls and Cisco routers, and enables users to easily configure firewalls and IPSec VPN tunnels within Cisco networks without requiring command-line expertise or device-by-device management.
This guide, System Configuration and Maintenance, is one of five Administrator's Guides geared toward helping you perform specific tasks within your Cisco Secure Policy Manager system. In this guide you will find the following information:
Performing the initial configuration of your Cisco Secure Policy Manager system requires a working knowledge of network administration and a thorough understanding of the network(s) on which your Cisco Secure Policy Manager system is deployed, including Windows NT and the associated hardware. In addition, we recommend that you be familiar with the Policy Enforcement Points that you intend to manage. This guide is intended for the administrator charged with initial configuration and maintenance of a Cisco Secure Policy Manager system.
Following the task-based approach to system configuration and maintenance, this guide is organized into two parts: Part I, Configuring Initial System Settings, and Part II, System Maintenance. These parts are organized into the following chapters and appendices:
