Folders enable you to organize the objects on a branch of the Tools and Services tree into comprehensible, manageable categories.
The following branches support the use of folders to organize their contents:
Additionally, the Security Policy Abstracts branch contains several default folders when Cisco Secure Policy Manager is first installed.
If you choose to organize existing branch objects in folders at a later time, you can easily create new folders and move existing objects to them. Cisco Secure Policy Manager does not process or reference these folders in other areas of the application, such as within Security Policy Abstracts, so moving an existing, referenced object to a folder will not affect your policy configuration.
The following branches of the Tools and Services tree enable you to create folders underneath them:
The Security Policy Abstracts branch of the Tools and Services tree is pre-populated with three folders, the Example Policies folder, the System Policies folder, and the Default Policies folder, when you first install Cisco Secure Policy Manager. You can use the Example Policies folder, which contains two example policies, to store policies that you create, or you can delete or rename the folder without affecting Cisco Secure Policy Manager.
The System Policies folder, however, is built, maintained, and populated by Cisco Secure Policy Manager. You should not attempt to modify this folder, or use it for storing your security policy abstracts. The System Policies folder contains system-generated policies that ensure the policy server (the main part of the system) is not accidentally isolated from the rest of the application.
The Default Policies folder is a system folder that is used to create and store the policies that you will apply to the Default Policy node in the Security Policy Enforcement branch of the Network Policy tree. The default policy is a special policy that does not require a source or destination condition of "this network object." You can only create this type of policy in the Default Policies folder or on the Default Policy node itself. When you create a policy on the Default Policy node in the Security Policy Enforcement branch, it will automatically appear in the Default Policies folder. When you create a policy in the Default Policies folder, you can only apply that policy to the Default Policy node in the Security Policy Enforcement Branch.
You can perform the following tasks with folders:
To create a folder, perform the following task:
Step 2 Access the shortcut menu by right-clicking the branch icon under which you want to create the folder. Then, point to New on the shortcut menu and select xxx Folder (where xxx is the type of folder you will create, depending upon which branch you are working in).
Result: A new node representing the new folder appears under the selected node. The default name of the folder is automatically selected for renaming.
Step 3 Type the new name in the selected box, and then press Enter.
Result: The new name appears in the name box of the selected folder.
Cisco Secure Policy Manager enables long names and the use of most alphanumeric or symbol characters. Also, you can use both uppercase and lowercase characters. However, you cannot use quotation marks (") or a semicolon (;).

Tips If you cannot edit the name, right-click the new folder node, and click Rename on the shortcut menu. |
Step 4 To save any changes you have made, click Save on the File menu.
Cisco Secure Policy Manager does not reference branch folders in its policies. Moving an object from a branch to a folder, between folders, or from a folder to a branch will not affect your policy configuration.
To move a branch object to or from a folder, perform the following task:
Step 2 Expand the tree where the destination branch resides. If you are moving an object to a folder under the branch, also expand the branch.
Step 3 To move an object between folders, from a branch to a folder, or from a folder to a branch, drag the object's icon and drop it on the destination folder or branch icon.
Result: The object is moved to the designated folder or branch.
Step 4 To save any changes you have made, click Save on the File menu.
