Audience

Cisco Secure Policy Manager, formerly known as Cisco Security Manager, is a Microsoft Windows-based product that manages security policies for Cisco Secure PIX Firewalls and Cisco router/firewalls. The product also supports security policy management for intranet and extranet Virtual Private Network (VPN) environments (e.g., gateway-to-gateway) based on PIX Firewalls and Cisco routers, and enables users to easily configure firewalls and IPSec VPN tunnels within Cisco networks without requiring command-line expertise or device-by-device management.

Installing Cisco Secure Policy Manager requires a working knowledge of network administration and a thorough understanding of the network(s) on which Cisco Secure Policy Manager is about to be deployed, including Windows NT and the associated hardware. We recommend that you also be familiar with the network security devices that you intend to manage and have an idea about the types of network security policies that you want to implement. This guide is intended for the person who is familiar with these issues and who is ready to install Cisco Secure Policy Manager.
