These upgrade instructions pertain to Cisco Secure Policy Manager when upgrading from the evaluation version to the standard product license. The following upgrade package is available: SEC-POL-MGR-UPG-2.0.
Using the Update Product License dialog box accessible on the Help menu in the GUI (the administrative interface for Cisco Secure Policy Manager), you can update the current license of your installed Cisco Secure Policy Manager product. This feature enables you to upgrade to the permanent product license and support a greater number of Policy Enforcement Points, such as the Cisco Secure PIX Firewall, than were previously supported in the evaluation version of the product.
A Cisco Secure Policy Manager license disk is packaged with your product. During the installation process you are prompted for the license disk and the password for that license. This license is a permanent one; therefore, you should not have to update it until the next release of the product.
Before you can upgrade your current license, you must have an operational Cisco Secure Policy Manager installation running on the required hardware and software as specified in the Cisco Secure Policy Manager Installation Guide.

Note You can replace any Cisco Secure Policy Manager license with any other license as long as the new license key supports the same release of Cisco Secure Policy Manager that you are currently running and the new license key cannot be expired (licenses that can expire are used during beta and evaluation periods). |
To upgrade the Cisco Secure Policy Manager license, perform the following task:
Result: The GUI loads.
Step 2 To access the Update Product License dialog box, point to Product Updates on the Help menu, and click License.
Result: The Update Product License dialog box appears.

Note The read-only value in the License host box identifies the Policy Server host running the Primary Policy Database, and thus the primary host that will be targeted for the license upgrade. The primary host distributes the upgrade information to all secondary hosts in the system. This box is for informational purposes only. |
Step 3 To specify the filename and path to the license key, type that filename and path in the License file name and path box, or click Browse to locate that disk and file.
If you stored the license file on your local machine, be sure to record the path to that file for future reference. Most likely, you received a new disk with the license key as a component in your upgrade package.
Step 4 To specify the password that corresponds to the license key file that you just specified, type that password in the Password box.
Be sure to record this password and store it in a safe place for future reference.
Step 5 To submit this information, click OK, or click Cancel to close the Update Product License dialog box without submitting the license update.
After you update your license, you can view the new license information by clicking the About this product command on the Help menu.
Because you have chosen to use the standard, permanent license of Cisco Secure Policy Manager to manage the security services in your network, you may find it beneficial to install one or more secondary hosts to distribute the load of your network monitoring and policy distribution functions. For more information on installing secondary hosts, refer to the "Choosing an Installation Option that Fits Your Topology" section in Chapter 1 of the Cisco Secure Policy Manager Installation Guide provided with your initial product.
