Release Notes for the Cisco IP/VC 3530 Video Terminal Adapter

September 2000

This release note describes the new features and caveats for the Cisco IP/VC 3530 Video Terminal Adapter (VTA) version 2.0 and embedded gatekeeper version 2.0. Use this release note in conjunction with the Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA User Guide Version 2.0.

Note   If you are upgrading a VTA, please refer to the upgrade notes that come with the upgrade software also. The upgrade notes provide installation and configuration information that is not available in the Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA User Guide or in these release notes.

For regulatory and compliance information on the Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA, refer to the Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information for Cisco IP/VC 3500 Series document.

New and Changed Information

New Features

The Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA version 2.0 release has the following new features:

H.323 Version 2 Compliance

The VTA supports features and functions described in the H.323 version 2 recommendation.

Expanded Bandwidth Support

The VTA can now support calls at 672 kbps (restricted) and 768 kbps.

Expanded Audio Coding

G.722 audio coding support is expanded to include the following bit rates:
336 kbps, 384 kbps, 672 kbps, and 768 kbps.

Additional Bandwidth Services

Expanded list of predefined bandwidths that local and remote call-initiators can use to set the VTA call bandwidth parameter for the call.

Important Notes

10BASE-T Interface

The Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA uses a 10BASE-T, IEEE 802.3 LAN interface. Make sure that the router or switch that the VTA connects to is configured to support 10BASE-T operation.

Continuous Incoming Calls

The Tandberg Vision 2000 version B4.0 and Vision 800/2500/5000 version C1.1 indicate continuous incoming calls after call termination. To work around this problem, change the V.35 cable by clipping off the wire that goes into
pin H (DTR) on the Winchester connector and short pin H (DTR) to pin C (CTS).

Video Quality Problems with Some Tandberg, PictureTel, or
CLI Models

If you encounter video quality problems while using a Tandberg 2500, PictureTel Venue, or CLI room system, we recommend that you disable the VTA T.120 feature. The VTA T.120 feature can be disabled through a terminal emulator session. For instructions on how to establish a terminal emulator session and how to configure the T.120 feature, refer to the "Monitoring the VTA" chapter in the Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA User Guide Version 2.0.

Polycom Reception of WAN Calls

If a Polycom ViewStation connected to a VTA is not receiving calls from Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) sources through a Cisco IP/VC 3500 gateway, reconfigure the gateway WAN Port Default Extension parameter. Enter the E.164 address assigned to the Polycom/VTA as the Default Extension. Refer to the appropriate Cisco IP/VC 3500 gateway user guide for instructions on how to configure the WAN port.

Resolved Caveats

Table 1 lists and describe caveats that are resolved in Cisco IP/VC 3510 VTA version 2.0.

DDTS Number Summary Explanation

CSCdp31544

Gateway, MCU, and VTA operating system configuration does not accept Enter key.

Fixed.

Open Caveats

Table 2 describes possible unexpected behavior by the Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA.

Table 2: Cisco IP/VC 3530 VTA Version 2 Open Caveats
DDTS Number Description

CSCdr11459

VTA does not respond if zone prefix is dialed with E.164 address.

The VTA is registered in an MCM gatekeeper zone. Interzone calls to the VTA that use the zone prefix fail.

Workaround: Attach the MCM zone prefix to the front of the E.164 address assigned to the VTA. Register the combined zone prefix and E.164 address with the MCM gatekeeper. For example: if the E.164 address you want to assign the VTA is 7849 and the MCM zone prefix is 111, then the E.164 address you register in the MCM for the VTA is 1117849.

CSCds15496

IP/VC 3530 VTA does not accept H.323 alias calls.

Calls that are dialed using the alias assigned to the VTA are rejected.

Workaround: Use the E.164 address assigned to the VTA.

CSCdr92684

Entering illegal numbers in subnet mask causes unit to lock up.

Workaround: Contact Cisco technical support, obtain an RMA, and return the unit.
