Instructions for Quick Installation

This section provides basic instructions to let you quickly connect and configure the MCU. To quickly set up the MCU, perform the following steps:

Step 1   Assign the MCU an IP address through the serial port. Use the terminal/modem cable in the MCU package to connect the MCU to the PC serial port.

See the "Setting the IP Address" sections in "Installing the Hardware."

Step 2   Connect the MCU to the network.

See the "Installing the Mounting Brackets" and the "Connecting the MCU to the LAN" sections in "Installing the Hardware."

Step 3   Install the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility on the network computer that you will use to configure the MCU.

See the "Cisco IP/VC Tools" section in "Installing the Cisco IP/VC Tools Software."

Step 4   Determine the mode of operation you want to use in the MCU.

See the "Modes of Operation" section in "Configuring the MCU."

Step 5   Set the operating parameters for the MCU:

Note   The MCU must register with a gatekeeper. The Cisco IP/VC 3510 MCU is H.323 version 2-compliant and will automatically register with external gatekeepers that are also H.323 version 2-compliant. If you want to use the embedded gatekeeper, you must manually register the MCU. See "Configuring the Embedded Gatekeeper" later in this guide for instructions on how to enable and configure the gatekeeper.
