This appendix provides information about the serial port and the terminal/modem cable that is shipped with the Cisco IP/VC 3510 MCU.
The topics include:
The Cisco IP/VC 3510 MCU uses a 9-pin, D-type, EIA/TIA-232 connector for the serial port. You can use the MCU serial port to assign the MCU an IP address and to monitor operation. You need a null cable for the tasks.
Figure D-1 provides pinout information for the MCU serial port.
| Pin | Function | I/O |
|---|---|---|
1 | NC | |
2 | RXD | Input |
3 | TXD | Output |
4 | NC | |
5 | GND | |
6 | NC | |
7 | NC | |
8 | NC | |
9 | NC | |
The MCU is shipped with a terminal/modem cable that you can use to set the MCU IP address or to monitor MCU activity through a PC serial port. The terminal/modem cable is a null cable with Y-construction that allows you to connect the MCU directly to a PC serial port or through a modem. Figure D-1 shows the connectors the terminal/modem cable uses. A male, D-type, 9-pin connector is used to connect to the MCU serial port. A female, D-type 9-pin connector is used to connect to a PC serial port. A female, D-type 25-pin connector is used to connect to a modem.
