Cable Connectors and Pinouts

This appendix describes the cables and connectors that are used with the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway. The topics include:

ISDN "S" Interface

The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway BRI port uses the pinout configuration shown in Table D-1 to connect to the WAN.

Proprietary V.35 Cable Assembly

Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateways equipped with V.35 modules use a proprietary DTE V.35 interface with EIA/TIA-366 signalling. A proprietary V.35/EIA/TIA-366 cable assembly is shipped for each V.35 port the gateway is equipped with. The cable assembly is comprised of a V.35 cable with a Winchester connector and a EIA/TIA-366 cable with a 25-pin connector attached to a 26-pin connector. The 26-pin connector connects to the gateway WAN port. For the gateway to handle 2B calls, two WAN ports must be used.

Table D-2 provides pinout information for the three proprietary cable assembly connectors.

Serial Connector and Null Modem Cable

The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway is equipped with a serial port that can be used to assign the unit an IP address and to run the diagnostic program. The serial port uses null configuration.

Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateways are shipped with a Terminal/Modem cable that is configured for null operation. The Y-construction of the Terminal/Modem cable allows you to connect the gateway directly to the serial port of a PC or through a modem (see Figure D-1). The cable connects a male, D-type, 9-pin connector that plugs into the serial port on the gateway to a female, D-type 9-pin connector that plugs into a PC serial port and a female, D-type 26-pin connector that plugs into a modem.
