Registering with the Cisco MCM Gatekeeper

Registering with the Cisco MCM Gatekeeper

This appendix describes how to set up the Cisco Multimedia Conference Manager (MCM) gatekeeper to use the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway and how to register the embedded gatekeeper with the MCM. The topics this appendix covers include:

The intent of this appendix is to provide the basic MCM configuration steps to ensure that the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway can register with the MCM and the basic steps require to ensure that users in the MCM zone can contact users in the embedded gatekeeper zone when zone prefixes are used. Refer to the Multimedia Conference Manager for complete instructions on how to install, configure, and use the Cisco MCM.

Setting up the MCM Gatekeeper to Use the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway

The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway must register with a gatekeeper on the network. The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway version 2.0 gateway can automatically registers with gatekeepers that are H.320 version 2-compliant. This section describes how to create a local MCM zone so that the MCM gatekeeper can recognize the gateway.

Requirements for Using the Gateway with the MCM

The following are required for the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway to register with the MCM gatekeeper

Creating a Local Zone

If you have not already done so, you must create a local zone on which endpoints including the gatekeeper can register. To create a local zone, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Login to the MCM gatekeeper on which you want to register the services.

Step 2 At the prompt, type: enable and press Enter.

Step 3 At the prompt, type: config terminal and press Enter.

Step 4 At the prompt, type: gatekeeper and press Enter.

Step 5 At the prompt, type: zone local gatekeeper-name IP_address.

Where:

gatekeeper-name is the name you assign to the gatekeeper.

IP_address is the IP address assigned to the MCM unit.

Step 6 If you want to assign a zone prefix to the zone, type: zone prefix gatekeeper-name prefix-value.

Where:

prefix-value is the prefix you want to assign to the specified gatekeeper.

Step 7 Press Ctrl-Z to save the entries when you are done.

Step 8 To save your changes, type write at the prompt.

Step 9 To verify that the service prefixes are registered with the gatekeeper, type
sh run at the prompt and press Enter.

Registering a Zone Prefix for the Embedded Gatekeeper

In environments where zone prefixes are defined, you must register the zone prefix of the embedded gatekeeper with the MCM if you want the users in the MCM zone to be able to initiate calls to users in the embedded gatekeeper zone. All call request pass through the gatekeeper with which the endpoint is registered. Registering the embedded gatekeeper with the MCM allows the MCM to make direct contact with the embedded gatekeeper when a call is being placed to a recipient in the embedded gatekeeper zone. If the embedded gatekeeper zone prefix is not registered with the MCM, calls initiated in the MCM to the embedded gatekeeper zone are rejected. The embedded gatekeeper zone prefix must be a unique value; if the value is also used as a hopoff in the MCM, calls to the embedded gatekeeper zone will not be placed. This section describes how to register the embedded gatekeeper zone prefix with the MCM.

Registration Requirements

The following items are required to register Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway zone prefix with the MCM gatekeeper:

Registering the Embedded Gatekeeper with the MCM Gatekeeper

To register the embedded gatekeeper zone prefix with the MCM, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Login to the MCM gatekeeper on which you want to register the services.

Step 2 At the prompt, type: enable and press Enter.

Step 3 At the Password prompt, type the password required to log in to the MCM.

Step 4 At the prompt, type: config terminal and press Enter.

Step 5 At the config prompt, type: gatekeeper and press Enter.

Step 6 At the config-gk prompt, type: zone remote identifier IP address port and press Enter.

Where:

Step 7 At the config-gk prompt, type: zone prefix identifier zone prefix and press Enter.

Where zone prefix is the zone prefix of the embedded gatekeeper as defined in the gatekeeper Services Definition Table as Zone prefix 1 or Zone prefix 2.

Step 8 Press Ctrl-Z.

Note To save the embedded gatekeeper information permanently, you must issue an MCM write command.
