Release Notes for Cisco IP/VC 3520 Gateway

The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway is a network hardware solution that allows audio, video and data conferencing to occur between H.323-compliant LAN endpoints and H.320-compliant terminals on BRI networks. The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway translates H.323 and H.320 protocols so that LAN users can communicate with ISDN and PSTN users.

Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway Features

The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway features include:

One 10/100BaseT LAN port.
Up to 4 BRI ports depending on the model.
Up to 4 V.35 DTE ports depending on the model.
Four audio transcoding ports supporting G.711 ´ G.723.1 and G.728 ´ G.711.
Supports up to 8 simultaneous voice calls.
Support for up to 4 simultaneous high-quality video calls (384Kbps) through the V.35 port.
Support for up to 4 simultaneous high-quality data calls (384Kbps) through the V.35 port.
Supports direct inward dialing (DID) for routing incoming calls to H.323 endpoints without operator intervention through one of the following:
- Multiple Subscriber Numbering (MSN).
- TCS4 for H.320 video and data calls.
- Default Extension when an H.323 endpoint is defined as the default extension.
Modifiable and replaceable internal interactive voice response (IVR) with dual tone multiple frequency (DTMF) detection of up to eight simultaneous calls for indirect inward dialing.
EIA/TIA-232 console port (serial port), supporting local or remote connection for monitoring, configuration and diagnostics.
Supports echo cancellation.
Front panel LED display.
Self test during power on.
No user intervention required for operation.
Simple configuration and setup via a Windows application.
Diagnostics feature.
Easy software upgrades from a remote site using TFTP into Flash memory.
T.120 support.
Auto detection of call bit rate (the V.35 module).
Internal H.323 Gatekeeper, supporting up to 100 registered H.323 endpoints.

Important Notes

This section provides information about the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway that is not included in the Cisco IP/VC 35200 Gateway User Guide.

If you are using a LiveLAN system, you may experience problems due to the LiveLAN system's inability to tolerate opening and closing of channels.
If you are experiencing performance issues with your IP/VC product we suggest that you force your Ethernet port setting to half-duplex.

Saving the Configuration Parameters

This section describes how to save configuration parameters for the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway and for the embedded gatekeeper. The configuration parameters are saved as files on the computer you use to set the parameters. You can use the gateway file to restore the parameters to the current Video Gateway or to configure other Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateways. You can use the embedded gatekeeper files to restore parameters on the current embedded gatekeeper or to configure other Cisco IP/VC embedded gatekeepers.

Saving Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway Parameters

The Save option saves a complete set of configuration parameters for the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway. The set includes all of the configurable gateway parameters in all of the configurable dialog boxes from the Unit ID dialog box through the WAN Port Settings dialog box.

To save configuration parameters for the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Launch the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility.

Step 2 Login to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway that has the parameters you want to save.

Step 3 Click Unit Setup in the Configuation Source dialog box.

Step 4 Proceed to the Miscellaneous Parameters dialog box. You can make changes in the Unit Identification dialog box and in the Miscellaneous Parameters dialog box.

Step 5 If you want to save the configuration with only the changes you have made up to this point, click Finish. The Save Setup dialog box appears.

The Save Setup dialog box allows you to save the entire set of Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway parameters as a file and to upload the file to the units Flash memory. Go to Step 7 for instruction on how to save the parameters as a file.

If you want to change additional Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway parameters, click Next.

Step 6 If you have opted to make additional configuration changes, continue through the parameter dialog boxes making the appropriate changes as you go. The Save Setup dialog box appears after you have verified that the WAN parameters are correct.

Step 7 In the Save Setup dialog box:

(a) In the Save as text box, enter a filename for the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway parameter file you want to create. If you want to save the parameters to an existing file, click the spinner and select the file from the drop-down list.

Note

(b) Click Yes. The file is saved in the Cisco IPVC Tools/ Configuration folder on the configurating computer. The Confirm dialog box appears.

The filename will appear in the Source drop-down list of the Configuration Source dialog box whenever you access a Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway using the current configurating computer.

Step 8 The Confirm dialog box lets you upload the configuration file you have just saved to the unit's Flash memory. If you do not want to save the parameters you have set to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway, click No. Click Yes if you want to upload the parameters.

Step 9 Complete the remaining dialog boxes.

Loading a Saved File

You can load a file you save into the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility to restore the parameters on a Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway or to use to set a Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway parameters.

To load a file into the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility, follow these steps:

Step 1 Launch the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility.

Step 2 Login to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway that has the parameters you want to save.

Step 3 Click the Source text box in the Configuation Source dialog box. A drop-down list appears containing all of the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway configuration files stored on the configuration computer.

Step 4 Select the file you want to use.

Step 5 Click Unit Setup. The file is loaded into the configuration utility. You can modify the parameters and upload the file to the selected unit's Flash memory.

Saving Gatekeeper Parameter Files

The embedded gatekeeper configuration tables are set and save independently of each other. To save the parameters you set in a table, follow these steps:

Step 1 Launch the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility.

Step 2 Login to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway that has the parameters you want to save.

Step 3 Click Gatekeeper in the Configuation Source dialog box.

Step 4 Click the application parameter configuration you want to save.

Step 5 Set the parameters as you want to save them in the table.

Step 6 Click Save. The Save As dialog box appears.

Step 7 In the File name text box, enter the name you want to use for the file you save. The appropriate extension for the application is automatically applied.

Step 8 Click Save.

Loading a Saved Embedded Gatekeeper File into the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility

To load embedded gatekeeper table configuration parameters you have saved into the configuration utility, follow these steps:

Step 1 Launch the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility.

Step 2 Login to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway that has the parameters you want to save.

Step 3 Click Gatekeeper in the Configuation Source dialog box.

Step 4 Click the application parameter you want to configure. The application table appears.

Step 5 Click Load. The Open dialog box appears.

The Open dialog box lists files in the appropriate Cisco IP/VC directory that you can load. The file type is preselected. The file types are:

.srv for Service Definition Table files
.zon for Zone Definition Table files
.nbr for Neighbor Gatekeeper Table files
.tpl for Network Topology Table files
.ctr for Network Control Table files

Step 6 Select the file you want to load.

Step 7 Click OK.

You can use the file as is or modify the parameters for the current embedded gatekeeper. The parameters can be written to the unit's Flash memory when you exit the definition table.

Limitations and Restrictions

LAN endpoints that use NetMeeting, LiveLAN or VCON-Quick Connect ver 1.4 being cannot initiate T.120 sessions. The endpoints can participate in T.120 sessions that are initiated on the WAN.
The number of incoming call routing methods you have enabled can affect the time it takes a call to get through to the recipient.

Open Caveats

CSCdp21042 Embedded gatekeeper does not work with MCM proxy.
CSCdp17285 Excessive IVR Response Time---When dialing from LAN (H.323) through a gateway and then into another gateway, the IVR response time is excessive. The caller only hears silence not knowing if the call was established. Eventually the IVR will come on if the caller continues to wait.

The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths.
