This chapter describes the basic steps required to set up and configure your VTA system
1. Unpack the VTA and check the package contents.
See "Site Requirements" and "Package Contents" sections in "Setting Up Your System."
2. Plan the Configuration.
See the "Planning the Configuration" section later in this chapter.
3. Set the IP address.
See the "Setting the IP Address" section in "Setting Up Your System."
4. Install the VTA next to an H.320 system.
See the "Mounting the VTA" section in "Setting Up Your System."
5. Connect the VTA to the LAN.
See the "Connecting the VTA to the LAN" section in the "Setting Up Your System."
6. Install the Configuration Utility software.
7. Configure the VTA.
Before you start configuring the VTA, plan the procedure to ensure a smooth and effortless configuration. This section reviews the items to consider.
The VTA operates on an IP-based LAN. Each VTA must have a unique IP address. The VTA leaves the factory with a default IP address, which you must change to the unique IP address according to your network IP addressing scheme (contact your network administrator).
To ensure proper configuration, the VTA and the configuration PC must be on the same LAN and have the same subnet mask defined.
The VTA configuration is protected by a modifiable configuration password. The default password for all VTAs is cisco.
We recommend that you change this password and assign a unique password for each VTA during configuration.
The VTA must be registered with an H.323 gatekeeper (either the Cisco MCM gatekeeper or third party's gatekeeper). The configuration program will ask you to enter the default Gatekeeper IP address.
Enter this field if the LAN to which the VTA is connected connects through a router to another LAN or the Internet.
Use the VTA phone number to dial in to the VTA from other H.323 or H.320 devices (16 digits maximum).
Before you start configuration, obtain the following information (from your network administrator, for example); enter the values below to make VTA configuration more convenient:
