Upgrading the VTA Software

C Appendix

This chapter describes how to upgrade the VTA software using the Software Upload Utility.

About the Software Upload Utility

The VTA stores the operating software on its on board Flash memory. The Software Upload Utility enables you to upgrade the software module.

When you upload a file to the VTA using the Software Upload Utility, the existing software version is replaced with the new version and you should save to a file any configuration you made.

Note The Software Upload Utility serves other Cisco IP/VC units. You only need to install it once for all units.

Running the Software Upload Utility

To run the Software Upload Utility, perform the following steps:

Step 1 From the computer on which the IP/VC 3500 software has been installed, click Start>Cisco IPVC>Upload>Cisco IPVC Software UpLoad Utility. The Software Upload Utility dialog box appears (see Figure C-1).

Step 2 Enter the IP address of the VTA you want to upload the file to in the IP: field.

Step 3 Enter your username in the User name: field, and your password in the Password: field. If desired, you can save the password by selecting the Save password check box.

Step 4 Select the folder in the Look in: drop-down list that contains the file you want upload. Note that the path of the selected folder appears in the Path: field and all the Flash files in the folder are displayed in the window below the Look in: drop-down list.

Step 5 Select the file you want to upload for the files listed in the window. The filename appears in the File Name: field.

Step 6 Click Upload to upload the file.

Step 7 Click Yes to confirm the upload process, or No to cancel.

A connecting window appears showing the connection attempt. If the connection attempt is not successful, an abort message is displayed.

When the configuration terminal connects to the unit, a status window appears showing the progress of the uploading process and confirms the name of the file being uploaded and the destination IP address.

After the file is successfully uploaded to the VTA, the message Upload Process Complete appears.
