Installing the Hardware and Configuration Software

This chapter describes how to install the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway on the network. The topics include:

Inspect the content of the box for shipping damage. Report any damage or missing items to your distributor or reseller.

Setting the IP Address

Before you attach the Video Gateway to the network, you must assign the unit an IP address. The Video Gateway has a serial port on the front panel through which IP address information can be set. This section describes how to use the serial port to configure the Video Gateway with IP address information. You will need the following to set the address:

To set the IP address, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Locate the Terminal/Modem cable shipped with the Video Gateway and connect the 9-pin connector marked PC to a serial port on the computer and the 9-pin connector marked Unit to the serial port on the Video Gateway front panel.

Step 2 Connect the power cable to the Video Gateway and to a power outlet.

Step 3 Start the terminal emulator on the computer.

Step 4 Turn on the power to the unit. A log of Video Gateway events appear on the console.

Step 5 When the message "Press any key to start configuration" appears on the screen, press any key within 6 seconds. An options list appears.

Step 6 At the prompt, type 1 and press the Enter key to select the "for configuration of default ethernet port value" option. This option allows you to set the IP address information. The prompt "Enter Default Interface Number" appears.

Step 7 At the prompt, type 1 for Port 1. Press Enter. The "Enter IP Address for Interface No. 1" prompt appears.

Step 8 Type the IP address you want to assign to the unit and press Enter. The "Enter Default Router IP address" prompt appears.

Step 9 Type the IP address of the router associated with the segment in which the unit will be installed and press Enter. The "Enter IP Mask <HEX>" prompt appears.

Step 10 If the unit will be associated with a subnet mask, convert the subnet mask IP address to hexadecimal and enter the hexadecimal number at the prompt. Press Enter. You can use the computer's desktop calculator to convert the submask ID to hexadecimal.

The program writes the information to the unit's firmware.When the activity stops, exit the configuration software and unplug the unit. Install the unit on the network in the appropriate segment.

Installing the Mounting Brackets

You can install the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway in a 19-inch rack. The mounting kit supplied with the Video Gateway includes two brackets for mounting the unit on a rack. This section describes how to install the mounting brackets.

To attach the mounting brackets, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Place the unit right way up on a hard flat surface, with the front panel facing you.

Step 2 Position a mounting bracket over the mounting holes on one side of the unit (see Figure 3-1).

Step 3 Pass the two screws through the washers and bracket holes into the Video Gateway, and tighten them securely with a screwdriver.

Step 4 Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the other side of the Video Gateway.

Step 5 Insert the unit into the 19-inch rack and secure. Two screws are needed for each side. These screws are not provided.

Step 6 Verify the air vents at the sides of the unit are not blocked.

Connecting the Video Gateway to the Network

After you have placed the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway in the position, attach network cables to the unit. The Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway has 1 LAN port and up to four WAN ports.

To connect the Video Gateway to the network, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Make sure that the required materials and conditions for your site are in place. See the "Site Requirements" section in "Getting Started" chapter.

Step 2 Connect a cable from the LAN to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway LAN port. The Video Gateway supports 10BaseT and 100BaseT connections. The LAN port accepts an RJ-45 connector. For best results, the LAN cable should not be more than 15m. For 100BaseT connectivity, you must use at least Category 5 cable.

Step 3 Connect WAN lines to the appropriate Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway
WAN port.

Step 4 Connect a power cable to the Cisco IP/VC 3520 Video Gateway and to a power outlet.

The unit's power socket supports 120 VC @ 60 Hz and 220 VC @ 50 Hz sources.

Step 5 Turn the power on. The unit runs it Power On Self Test (POST).

During POST the LEDs on the front panel behave in the following manner:

If the LED indications do not correspond to the normal indications, see "LED Indications" in the "Troubleshooting Tips" chapter.

Installing the Cisco IP/VC Tools Software

This section describes how to install the Cisco IP/VC Tools software. This software package contains the Cisco IP/VC Configuration Utility, the Cisco IP/VC IVR Record Utility, the Cisco IP/VC Software Upload Utility, and documentation for each of the
Cisco IP/VC 3500 Series products.

Installing the Cisco IP/VC Tools Software

The Cisco IP/VC Tools CD-ROM contains the configuration software for the
Cisco IP/VC 3500 Series family. The CD-ROM includes the following:

To install the Cisco IP/VC Tools software, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Start Windows on the machine on which you want to install the
Cisco IP/VC Tools software.

Step 2 Insert the Cisco IP/VC Tools CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 The CD-ROM is configured to deploy the configuration wizard automatically.

Follow these steps If the computer is not configured to deploy the wizard automatically.

Step 4 Read the Welcome window and click Next. A message box appears.

Step 5 The message box informs you of the readme file. We recommend that you read the Readme file before continuing.

Step 6 The Product Selection dialog box allows you to copy product documentation for each of the Cisco IP/VC 3500 Series products to the computer during installation. Click the text boxes of the products for which you want to copy the documents. Click Next when you are done. The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears.

Step 7 The Choose Destination Location lets you choose where the Cisco IP/VC Tool files will be stored. Click Next. The Setup Type dialog box appears.

Step 8 The Setup Type dialog box lets you choose the type in install you want. Select the type and click Next. The Select Program Folder dialog box appears.

Step 9 Click Next. The files are setup on the computer and the Setup Finish dialog box appears.

Step 10 Click Finish.

This completes the hardware and software installation.
