Overview

This chapter describes the GigE interface card and contains the following sections:

GigE Interface Card Overview

The GigE interface card is intended for use with high-traffic Internet sites. When installed in the Cisco LocalDirector 430, the GigE interface card increases data throughput to nearly 1000 Mbps. You can install up to four GigE interface cards in a single Cisco LocalDirector 430.

LEDs

The GigE has one row of three status LEDs. The fourth LED is not used. (See Figure 1-1.)

TX

Green

Indicates the GigE is sending data.

RX

Green

On

Indicates the GigE is receiving data.

LINK

Green

On

Indicates the GigE is connected to a valid link partner and is receiving link pulses.

Cables and Connectors

The LocalDirector GigE uses dual-attached SC connectors with 1000BASE-SX multimode fiber-optic cables. The dual-attached SC connector port and dual-attached SC connector are shown in Figure 1-2.

Note The maximum distance specification for 1000BASE-SX-standard 62.5-micron diameter fiber is 260 meters. The maximum distance specification for 1000BASE-SX-standard 50-micron diameter fiber is 525 meters.
