This chapter describes how to create, customize, and save charts based on grid data and includes the following sections:
The Scanner can generate a variety of charts to effectively communicate the data results of your network scans and probes. In addition to changing your perspective on the Grid Browser, you can also highlight parts of it to generate such graphics as pie charts, area charts, and line charts. You can also show detail on each piece of the pie chart, for example, by right-clicking a slice in the pie. Figure 8-1 illustrates the pie chart type available in the Scanner Chart Wizard.
Table 8-1 describes the Chart Toolbar buttons and their functions.

To create a chart from your grid data, follow these steps:
Step 1 From the Grid Browser, highlight the cells that you want to chart.
Step 2 Click Create Chart on the toolbar
or
right-click the highlighted cells and click Chart on the pop-up menu.
The Scanner Chart Wizard is displayed (Figure 8-2).
Step 3 Click the icon for one of the following nine types of charts:
A window opens that contains the chart of your data.
The Scanner provides a variety of ways to customize your chart. This section includes the following topics:
A separate Legend window is part of the initial chart display. This legend describes which colors in the chart correspond to which row and column items in your original Grid Browser display. You can hide/show the Legend window at any time while viewing your chart (Figure 8-3).
To hide the Legend window, click Hide Legend/Show Legend on the toolbar or right-click anywhere in the chart and click Hide Legend/Show Legend on the pop-up menu.
The legend is hidden/shown (Figure 8-4).
You can have the labels on your chart showing or you can hide them if they clutter up your chart (Figure 8-5).
You can also embed/separate the Legend window in the chart display (Figure 8-6).
To embed/separate the Legend window, follow these steps:
Step 1 Right-click anywhere in the chart.
Step 2 Click Embed Legend/Separate Legend Window on the pop-up menu.
Notice that when you embed the Legend window, the size of your chart increases.
You can move the embedded legend to various positions in your chart (Figure 8-7).
To move the embedded Legend window, follow these steps:
Step 1 Right-click anywhere in the chart.
Step 2 Click Move Legend on the pop-up menu.
Step 3 Choose one of the following locations:
You can change your chart type at any time to one of nine chart types depending on which cells you highlight in the grid (Figure 8-8). See Chapter 8, "Creating Charts" for more information on the chart types.
To view your data in another type of chart, follow these steps:
Step 1 Right-click anywhere in the chart.
Step 2 Click Change Chart to on the pop-up menu.
Step 3 Click a new chart type on the submenu
or
click the down arrow at the right of the Chart Type drop-down list on the toolbar.
Step 4 Click another chart type on the list.
Your display changes accordingly.
The background color of your chart in the initial display is gray (Figure 8-9).
To change the background color of your chart, follow these steps:
Step 1 Right-click anywhere in the chart.
Step 2 Click Change Background Color to on the pop-up menu
or
click the down arrow at the right of the Chart Color drop-down list box on the toolbar.
Step 3 Click the new background color on the pop-up menu or on the drop-down list.
To rotate your chart for a better view, follow these guidelines:
To save your chart, follow these steps:
Step 1 Right-click anywhere in the chart.
Step 2 Click Save Chart on the pop-up menu
or
click Save on the toolbar (Figure 8-10).
Step 3 Type the name of your chart in the Enter chart title field.
Step 4 Click OK.
The saved chart appears on the Scanner main window under the Chart folder of the Results Set folder of the session you were charting. You can now include this chart in a report.
